sled value

Post by jmann »

Whats the going rate for an excellent sled. 1917 dated, both oil and patch box on leg, and original canvas (not leather) pads in very good shape. Small tear on the rear pads, no tears at all on shoulder pads. All wood and leather undamaged and where it is supposed to be.
Any help is appreciated.

wow that was quick. That sight is a pretty difficult one to find. Not really wanting to part with it right now. Someone was peddling one at the creek last fall but I cant remember who. I have a friend with a nice e. leitz one for sale, no case though if you know of anyone interested.

jmann, ok, well I was going to let you off cheap and just accept that ZF for the appraisal... now I will just send you a bill

Yeah in this condition, I would say 4-5K at current market. Hell I could probably sell it for you too.

Is the Leitz black or green? If Black, I am interested. Yeah the one you have is fairly rare... I would say the third of the main five.

The one my friend has for sale is green and has leather left but somewhat worn.. I have a black one. What is the difference?
I really need to go through mine, I think I have 7 or so, not counting the other things that mount on the dovetail in their place.
Not sure what I want to do with the spare sled at this time. Its not really spare as my other 08 sits on it, but thinking of using a tripod with my shooter 08 and maybe parting with the sled. Will definitely part with it if I can find a more interesting type of maxim kit to build that gun into.

The Black one I think is just so slightly more rare... probably not really worth more but I don't have one yet.

Yeah take a picture of them all, lets see!

Good Sleds are hard to come by. Don't let it go until you are sure!

Here are some of my zf12's. I also have two more (another busch that is cosmetically rough but perfect optics which I use for shooting and an e.leitz that was green and looks like it was run over by a truck.)

I don't know if the website cropped them down or if you just took very close pictures...

Anyway, first two are very common as you know. There is an early version of this sight thats not very common. Third is more rare. 4th is just a little more rare than the common version. 5th is rare. I would be interested in the last three if they come up for sale.

What you should do is work out a trade with someone who wants a sled, but currently has Swiss mount with an 08 adapter. The swiss mount is great for a shooter, solid and weighs a lot less...

Did I mention, I have a Swiss mount in great shape and want a Sled?

I will keep that in mind. I actually have a Chinese tripod which is a carbon copy of the 1916 pods the Germans used with the 08. I have a shooting buddy that has been looking for a sled for a while. I will find out what he wants to do at the creek but I doubt he will want to pay even friends price for it. Just fwiw I would need some pretty serious boot to go along with a Swiss pod trade.

duh

If your buddy doesn't want to pay the friend price, I'm interested at the stranger price.

No, once you've seen a bunch of dirt shooters blasting MGs, and walked through an overpriced gunshow that's too loud to converse with the vendors, you've seen them all...

I have friends who go to look out for things for me. I'll gladly pay a reasonable price, but it seems the cheapest way to get a sled anymore is to buy one with an MG08 attached, and then sell the gun....
