Fantastic images in this thread!!!! I noticed the guys in the last picture have the very early first pattern ammo can, that opens on the side- pretty cool!

It looks like the guys in the truck with the Vickers guns went down with a heck of a fight. The expended belts everywhere sure look like they were shooting a lot.

Side opening ammo box? It is an early example but it is still top opening.

The lid opens and hinges to the rear, it's the first pattern; they were later changed to hinge from the side, where the lid lifts off to the side, not the rear. These first pattern boxes also do not generally have a handle on the lid, from my experience, only the side handles are present. I've got two, they are clumsier than the later ones with the handle on the lid, probably why they changed; they are 500 round cans, two belts.

I know I have been away but not a whole year!! All my images seem to have gone. I shall slowly replace but please email me direct if you have a 'wants' list or you have spares. As a MG08 and 08/15 collector in Europe there are still some good items to be had.
