Erb MG08 Price Check?
Looking for the approximate value of an Erb MG08 with sled mount. Average condition. Thanks

Its easier for you to post pictures of the gun you are looking at and state the price. Then ask our opinions.Rottenfuhrer wrote:Looking for the approximate value of an Erb MG08 with sled mount. Average condition. Thanks
MG08s tent to range in price pretty well and swing a fair amount from depending. Usually I would say they are in the teens but have been seen lower.
Re: Erb MG08 Price Check?
With the large number of original C&R guns available you will find that one built and registered by charlie erb will bring quite a bit less. I've seen some very nice original guns sell in the $15-18K range recently with sled mounts. The sled is a big part of the value as well with decent sleds selling in the $3-5K range by themselves. My wild ass guess on the value of a non C&R 08 would be somewhere in the $6-9K range and figure $3-5K for the sled if its in good working condition. Demand is not high right now for these old watercoolers despite their historical nature and general neatness. My customers turned down a couple non C&R plate guns at some pretty low prices because they wanted original guns. C&R's are a lot easier to sell so they tend to bring more and be in demand.
Hope that helps

Re: Erb MG08 Price Check?
I was trying to get a feel for the market value before posting photos. I normally do not deal in guns this early but with the centennial of the Great War being here my interest has been sparked. I have owned Erb guns of other types in the past and never had a problem with their function.
This one is 1918 dated and the bogus 1918 markings engraved on the fuzzee cover are a bit of a turn off.
Being a SOT a pre May would suit me fine but this one with sled mount was offered to me.

What is the asking price?
I have to say, any MG08 is worth $8K... if nothing else people will pull the sideplate and put it on a 1910.

It is part of a trade deal. Sled comes with it.

Ok, its a lot easier to say if a number is good, fair or bad. Coming up with a number is always hard.Rottenfuhrer wrote:It is part of a trade deal. Sled comes with it.
I would say the gun is probably $9-$11K or so. Depending on how much Erb Reworked like the fusee cover.
Sled maybe $4K
As a package $11-14K. I know that much sound odd given the prices individually... but I find MG08 prices to be kind of odd in that way. Really depends on how much they want a Sled mount. Some like a lighter tripod. Some must have the Sled for the look. Sleds are worth double a tripod I would say.
As Frank said, a lot does come down to demand. That said, a lot of people would be interested in a ERB sideplate gun so they can rip it off and make a 1910 or T24 maxim out of it. A member here comes to mind... Jmann....

It is mixed in with a trade involving a number of machine guns so approximate value is what I was mainly after.

I think my $11-14K value is pretty good. I don't think you will see much more or less. Now maybe well known SOTs might be able to pull more out of it but that usually also includes them going over the gun and having it in good working order. Thats IMHO, take it for what you paid for it but I do watch these prices more so then most.Rottenfuhrer wrote:It is mixed in with a trade involving a number of machine guns so approximate value is what I was mainly after.

I don't believe Jmann would do me that way, he is one of the ones that got me interested in Maxims.IMBLITZVT wrote:That said, a lot of people would be interested in a ERB sideplate gun so they can rip it off and make a 1910 or T24 maxim out of it. I was estimating between $14-15 on it so I guess I was in the ballpark.

No I was not suggesting Jmann would buy it out from under you. I was saying that he has been looking for a gun that he can pull a Erb Sideplate off of so he can build a 1910. He is always looking for a deal and maybe you are too. He ends up with the plate and you get a nice parts kit you can slap a post sample sideplate on... etc. No thoughts of an end run around you going on here. Just thinking of the demand thats out there for Erb Plates. I know Jmann has been looking for something like that, so thats why it came up.Rottenfuhrer wrote: I don't believe Jmann would do me that way, he is one of the ones that got me interested in Maxims.

Usually I see that package in a C&R running $14-$16K. So thats why I was lower being an Erb sideplate.
