MG17 Belt Feed Adapter
A while back I purchased a belt adapter for a MG17 from a guy in Latvia. He claimed that it had come off an Messerschimtt 109 but he made reference to the plane being twin engine so it may have been a ME110 or may not have been a Messerschitt at all, I am not sure. Anyway I purchased they device hoping to restore it and adapt it to my post sample MG15, I had read that the two guns were mechanical identical. I recently managed to free up the mechanism and partially disassemble it but I have no idea how to fully disassemble it or what parts may be missing. I am hoping someone might know something about this thing because I have found very little info on it. I am assuming not many survived the war, this one barely did.
Re: MG17 Belt Feed Adapter
There are a couple of good photos of the parts in Musgrave's book titled "German Machine Guns". Should be able to view a copy at a local Libarary......or be able to purchase a copy of the updated book on the internet.
If you contact the people at "DWJ" Magazine (it's a gun magazine in Germany), there were a few articles about the MG17 series. Again, a "search" on the internet.
