Odd dwm barrel

Post by oprod »

Ive got a great looking dwm barrel. It has the imperial marks in it.
It does not chamber 8mm mauser.
it does chamer the early 8mm mauser that was around in 1910 or so before the round was modified.
it also does chamber 7mmx65 ? argentine.
What might this ol maxim be? and would anybody want it or trade me with an 8mm?

I'd love to see some pictures too. Is it military proofed, or DWM only? Argentina had a number of Maxims, many of which were imported to here 50 years ago. Are you sure it isn't a barrel for one of them? I'd love to see more on this!

Technically, I cant think of any reason it would chamber one 7.92 round (the round nosed bullet one) and not the Spitzer 7.92 round. There is no difference in the cartridge case, and the bullet wouldn't change anything as far as chambering, except for the throat, perhaps? Is the barrel marked with the caliber on it anywhere, like 7.91 or 7.65, etc? Are there any letters stamped on it, like S or P?

Interested minds want to know! :D

Im sure they made them otherwise but most of the 7.65 barrels I have seen for the 1895 maxims were copper plated on the outside.

DWM stamped on one side of the breech end of barrel. There is a brass adjustment ring as normal with the holes for the spanner wrench. On the oppisite side there is an anchor symbol, the letter G, and the number 152. On the barrel itself there is a small capitol B in script, There are no other markings. The barrel looks danged near new on the outside. The inside shows wear, but no pitting and is bright and shiney throughout. The blueing is a wonderful dark lusterous color perhaps of deep midnight with the slight overtones of inky blackness perhaps reminesent of liquid pools found while lost gazing into the depths of her..... gotcha :wnana:
