I think I found a new ZF12 variation!

Post by IMBLITZVT »

Its a post WWI variation for sure, 1935 on the case. However I have never seen this "common" style ZF12 made by Grodenstock. What do you think? Also Finnish used which is a bit different. David, do you have on of these? I know you have a large ZF12 collection.

I bought it and its on its way.

Hello IMBLITZVT,

i have ever seen ZF 12 with this maker (style existing today), i think it's made in WWII or maybe after for other country, your is stamp SA, for finnish army.......For me, this style of scope are always made by Emil Busch during WWI and it's what i collect, only between 1900 since 1918, not after!
What i had with other makers:

And the first variation of ZF 12 made by Emil busch between 1912 and i think 1913...

They are always engraved with regiments and the little K for Kommission, the "eye looking" is normaly in ruber before war, it's for what mines are missing....after it'll be in leather and again in rubber during WWII...

Best regards

David,

Did you say you have or have not seen this style with this maker before? Thanks for sharing the other versions you have seen. I have not seen the top two before.

It is post WWI for sure. The case says 1935. I agree the post WWI have the rubber eye cup. You have a lot of very nice versions. I collect WWI and post WWI items. Post WWI items are rare in the USA.

I have never seen one with the regiment markings here in the US but I have not been collecting them that long either.

It seems the Germans started making a lot of Maxim items in 1934-1936 before they switch over to the MG34 production. This scope will go nicely with my new mount. Well it will be in a lot better condition.

Here is another Nazi era scope I have seen. Its probably a 1937 or 1938 scope as it actually has the Nazi eagle and I don't think you really saw them before 1937-38. I would buy it too but the owner thinks is worth $900 without eye cup or case! So he will have to keep it! I am looking for a ZF12 in this style as I don't have one.

your MG mount is very rare, i have only see one in France!
Me for the moment i am also restoring a bunker's mount from 1915..... :wnana:

For your scope, it's the first time i see this model without maker markings, i don't know what it is???
i have several in my collection from Goerz maker from WWI, the model is ZF 12 N/a (new model), there is the "K" stamp on the foot's scope. I also had the same with bigger number and no "K", for me from reichswheer or WWII.

For the price, i thing it's too expensive; maybe half will be better!

"our MG mount is very rare, i have only see one in France!"

David, Really! I thought this was the only one. Do you have pictures? I am very interested to see what it looks like. I think this one was dug out of poland.

"Me for the moment i am also restoring a bunker's mount from 1915..... "

That is very very nice looking. We have very few items like this in the US.

"For the price, i thing it's too expensive; maybe half will be better!"

Yeah I was thinking about one quarter or so. I have no other info on the scope. You have some very nice examples!
