Rare 22LR MG08/15!

Post by IMBLITZVT »

As seen in Dolfs book, this MG08/15 was converted, probably in the 20s or 30s to shoot 22LR. The guy gutted the 08/15 and installed a semi auto 22 inside. He connected the 08/15 trigger to a motor (mounted to the right sidplate) and the motor to the 22 trigger. You pull the trigger and turn on the motor shooting the semi 22 very fast! The original owner had it mounted in his store and you see the picture of it in Dolf's book.

It was registered in 68 and just sold for about $15k. Very interesting piece!

Somewhat interesting, but I dont see the value in it. Does it obtain value by being pictured in "the Paintbrush"? Seems to me like a 55 chevy with a brigs and stratton put in it by a weekend tinkerer to use at the carnival. Doesnt make sense that that bastardized piece oif history would bring a premium over a real gun. Not bashing just trying to understand. Please educate me.

I was a little shocked over the sticker price (But Dennis Todd gets the good stuff and knows who to sell it to). I myself would probably pay less for it but to the guy that has more money then guns... It will be pretty cool for his grand kids. I mean it is a one of a kind but I would have to think about restoring it...myself.

Alright, I'll go out on a limb and say I think this is pretty cool. The history with it is neat too. That said, I'd still try to restore it.... :D

It is neat but its not worth twice what a registered sideplate and a parts kit missing a bunch of parts is worth imo.
I guess he just wanted it because it was famous. My indirect fire sight is pictured in the same book and even listed by serial number. I will gladly take twice what it is worth.

I'll give you that, I don't know that I would have paid much extra for it, but I'd try to restore it to work as the .22 in the gun range first, just so I could see how that worked! :D

Of course, then I'd have to embark on the task of restoring it to work as a full MG 08/15, but hey, the .22 thing would be cool. Of course, if I could put it out at the local indoor gun range to make money, I might do that too. :D
(I might have to own the range though?) Certainly can't do that at most indoor ranges with my 08/15!
