Hello,
i am coming back from hollidays and i' ll try to explain and show you goods MG drums.

There are 2 types of drums:
The drums which are stamp on the metal " feuer! kurbelhoch"

On the left side there's always little stamps with crowns, on original drums :D

And not always but often, the maker is stamp. This one is made by siemens.

On this one there is only one stamp

On this one the maker is FRC

And the drums wich are paint "feuer! kurbelhoch"
During a long time, i was thinking that this sort of drums where reichswehr; because i never see one coming from the battlefield like this model. But on a lot of drums i've seen, they were stamps with crown......WWI

I hope that now you know a little more :D

And of course i have some MG 08 on sledmount; i only keep for my collection the sledmount with original paint  it's more funny because more difficult

And the MG 08 i like a lot is a camo paint with the sled mount camo paint like the machine gun..........;i'll show you pictures next time. :ot:

Very good info! Thanks!

Thats a great MG08 you have there. Actually the sleds are not as rare as that round water chest over here.

Now I agree that the drum is not WWI... Can you prove it was not made during 1919-1940?

Hello thanks for your congratulations, but in france, i think that it's more easy to find a round water chest than a sledmount :(
To prove that the drum with painted "feure..." is WWI is difficult. I had a lot of drums, and for me the WWII drums are with différents paints, more grey and dark. Sometimes blue as luftwaffe matérial, and a lot are camo paint with 3 colors as the WWII water can. I never see one with nazie stamps as you can find on water can.
So??? where is the réality?
An other picture of an other sledmount.

Excellent camo on the sled mount. Would you mind posting a side view photo? Is the paint original? I have a sled that was painted with galvanized paint. I hope to restore it soon and think that a camo paint job would be neat. Thanks for sharing your collection with us.

Hallo again, and Danke Sehr for all your very interesting and informative posts on all the threads you've posted on, you've really interested me in all this more! Thank you again!

I took some pictures of my painted 08/15 drum, as I was curious if it was similar to yours; no study of these has really been done, I think, and it's interesting to see the different types!

My painted drum, (all my others have the raised lettering) is made by FRC, just like yours, and has a stamp that appears to be a crowned "H" just like yours. I am curious, as I have seen very few like this, is this possibly only one maker, FRC, during WWI? I have FRC drums that are raised lettering types also. I wish there was a way to tell which ones were older, and if they "rectified" theirs to fit the design, or were allowed to stencil the lettering to speed production.
