Rails Rails whose rails????

Ok, build started, I have been reading many of the posts etc here on the website for many months and still have a few questions...
So here we go.. From what I have noticed with my small sample group is following.. If you have different info PLEASE add your info, THANKS...

Rails----- From what I have noted there seem to be 3 different types of rails...

1st type What I'm thinking of is the original rails that were used in the German made guns of the WW2 time.. This from looking at the poor cut up rail parts from my IMA German receiver cuts and rails that were received in other parts kits.. The German rail does not seem to have any markings on it. Also the Right side rail, top part of the rail is about .1 inch and the bottom part is also .1 inch. Now on the left side rail, top is .1 inch and the bottom is .07 inch. They also do not have a cut or ground reset area on the top of the rail for the first 4 inchs (approx) on either side. Also in the area where the stamp out for the area that goes into the "D" cutout area in the receiver I notice the the center area strike area is strong and in a almost long diamond shape. Not rounded or soft like strike. I know needs photos.... I'll work on it...

2nd type Yugo rails Early? I have seen several left and right rails that have markings like 2 and BK and K in both circle or rectangle. This rails normally have the top area ground down on top rail for about 4 inchs. Also on these rails I've noticed that the strike area for the "D" is soft or more spread out than the German rails.

3rd type Yugo rails Late?? On this type of rail I normally find part numbers like.. Left rail -- S-S113-24902
Right side -- S-S113-84829 also have same "D" soft mark and ground top 4 inchs..

MAIN reason that I'm making these notes is to try to notice differences between German rails and Yugo rails.. Also I have read on this website about differences in rivet hole spacings between German and Yugo rails, therefore I would think that I would want to use German rails for spacing on a German rear receiver rebuilt.

Ok, any thoughts about the above stuff??????

Thanks Later 42rocker

i think that the german rails --should line up with the hole a little more closly---however i think the yugo rails can be fab'ed to work in any rece---keep in mind that there is a left and right side rails---the side with the recouperator will be sightly thinner on the btm

I stated that I have found that there are 3 types of rails in my post. You said that the mg3 rails would make a 4th type.
Sounds great.... My statement that there seems to be 3, now 4 types is stated.... What is your thoughts on this, am I correct in my statements????? About the differences in German vs Yugo rails???

Also from my measurements the left side rail top is about .10 inch and the bottom of the rail is .07 inch and the right rail is .10 inch top and bottom.... Don't make the error of putting them on the wrong sides...

Also what would make a mg3 rail different from the 3 rails types that I listed????

Thanks

I would be very suspicious and double check the any used rails that came with a kit. If the holes line up when the spacings correct, thats great. Just don't take it for gospel those rails are from that receiver or that rail holes are always in the same location on every receiver/rail.

Also bit of overkill but real good idea to polish up the rails before they are installed. much easier before installed and helps save spring energy for bolt cycling.
