I have done one with oxy/acyt and like tom said, for a display like I built, no problem, but a shooter.........you would have to be the best gas slinger around. I know some guys that could pull it off, but these things are thin and they love to warp!. Heat is thyne enemy.

I'me back after a grueling week on the road. oxy/gas welding uses to much heat and
is not really the right thing to use to weld up a live gun. TIG is best, and I would say if
you are good with MIG it is possible, I would not use flux core.
The problem with MIG is that you need to do small sections at a time to keep
warping / distortion to a minimum while getting good clean welds with 100% penetration.
You would be better off to get someone to do it with tig or borrow a tig and do it yourself.
At this point in time receiver availability is scarce and taking the chance of ruining one is
a bad idea.

SCARCE?, they made a million of them, all we gotta do is bring them over!.

I mig'd a front booster on, and I admit....it looks like Hell on earth.
Maybe at 5 feet do things start being easy on the eyes.
I've answered some posts like this privately (to duck from the
Tig troopers) by saying it's possible w/out failure. But the word
"possible" means there's room for trouble. Not an option. I agree with
Pirate cause The front booster end I have on is HARD as a rock. It's
not going anywhere. I even went through on the Inside, and back that
cut double time. Looks like doo doo.... It's so hard to clean, cause
everytime you get to something smooth...bam...there some more hidden pits.
I guess the wire cannot pool outward, and fill like I want it.
It also warped(not to the eye) and shoots high and left at 100 yrds !!
When I get the other end on, I will whip out the before and after photos.
I'm just too embarrassed to show it.
Tig for a working unit.
Mig for S*&%'s and experimental giggles (and secretly enjoy it), or a dummy gun with heavy coats of spray
Oxy for dummy gun

I used a MIG for mine and it turned out ok. And I used .035 flux wire. I have never gotten good results with the solid wire/gas setup. Everytime I ground into the solid wire welds it was pit city.
I got good penetration with flux wire and have never had a problem with pits forming in the welds. It is harder to clean up the welds though.
I do agree that tig is a superior process and I do plan on getting one like Pirate used for his build as soon as I get a spare $300 and get my garage wired for the right voltage. But for now I used what I had on hand and it worked out.

My receiver was a 4 cut IO kit and everything lined up nicely. Didnt use a jig either. Havent had time to test fire it yet.
