I have both zinc and mag phosphate and they have never let me down.
on my 42 I used duracoat on the reciever and zinc parked the top cover and a few other parts. I know it is not they way they were originally finished but I think it looks bad ass.

Palmetto Armory
Palmetto Armory is located in Greenville, SC and I have heard nothing but GOOD results from their products. I work in Greenville, but am out of town till Friday, or I would get their address and telelphone number. If you do a search, you should be able to find their website and get the contact info.

Bluing & Parkerizing
Bluing or black oxiding requires carbon steel tanks, not stainless. Also your bath must have the right balance of chemicals and water. Your temperature will have to be held at between 290 & 300 without boiling over. Also you will need another tank for the soap solution, another for boilout and another for the water displacing oil. If you are not set up to do it correctly, and it should be done this way per specs, then you will end up spending 1000.00 +- for the equipment and chemicals, shipping and haz mat fees. I have been doing this for 25 years and still don't know all the tricks. Parkerizing you can do with the equipment you have. What you need to get is a zinc or manganese phosphate concentrate. Zinc is a light greay and Manganese is dark grey to black. You can buy it in small quantities from Brownells. You can also check out the bluing supplies they have.TOM R wrote:I am also set up with 6 defferent size stainless tanks one large enough for a 1919 with shroud installed so a m2hb box will fit here too and I got round burners strip burners a 1 million btu burner just need best source for best chemicals cause when i fire up I will be doing probly 4 mg42 in blue plus other micelanious stuff, yours is a good offer for anyone needing 1 gun done

If you take the MG, and let it sit in Brownell's "Steel White" until all of the old finish is off....the steel will turn a dull grey. If you blue the metal in this condition, it will turn a matt black, very similar to the look of black park....like many of the russian K98 refurbs.
It's better to be silent and considered a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.
