Well as you know I'm just finishing my dummy build, mostly cosmetic stuff left, and just last night started welding my first semi build, I'm gonna try and finish it today if the weather holds out. We'll see how it goes.

dont know if it fits here but I did it my self and I am very happy with the results and it sure seems to be holding up so far. there are a few pics posted under "all welded up" topic a bit futher down the page.

If I can do it I am sure anyone can.

step 1- buy welder

step 2- learn how to weld

step 3- take your time and go for it!

put together

Welded the receiver via heli-arc. Watch out for warppage at the trunnion area. If a little out of line, remember that the 42 is not that smart. As long as the bolt locks up your good to go. OAL can be .062+ in shrinkage due to the welding. Have fun , and test on a tripod, not your shoulder!

I also welded the upper bolt guide slot shut because I plan on making the allegheny (dummy) into a propane/oxy simfire gun and did not want the solid block in the reciever. I'll post more photos of the semi as it progresses

well fyi since there was no way to install the barrel bearing I inserted a piece of .75 in black pipe about an inch long into the muzzle end and welded it to keep the barrel from rattling around in there. Oh well it's only a display. And won't hurt when I turn it into a prop/oxy gun.

Welded up and test fired (30 rounds) using another guys BRP grip stick and bolt. Only tried 308 so far. MIG welded, but there are a few spots I want to touch up before I refinish. Still need to do my own grip stick and bolt mods - hopefully this weekend if Im not in TX for the storm.....

Just got a quick question. I have welded up a semi-mg42 and when i lay it down and look from the rear to the front it looks as thow it is bent to the left. I went out and shot it and it works great. But i still have a small concern about it. Maybe thats how there built or is it me. I used a half way built jig but i manly used parts and a eye.
