I've finally was able to get the rails riveted into the receiver and get the bolt to ride smoothly and without hesitation. It took two days and the rivets heads look like they're made of hand wrought iron from using a modified punch to flatten them, but they're in the right places and are tight. After installing the caming piece it took a bit of tweeking on the rail ends to allow for smooth operation. But the best part was when I put the barrel in, the bolt slides right in, locks up tight and retracts out when the barrel recoils. Granted the recoup assy isn't installed, but I think it's a good sign when the bolt will unlock with finger pressure.
After I put the recoup assy in, all I'll need is the bolt and gripstick mods any this guns off to the range. Oh, and a pedastal mount for my Bronco so no one fights me for a parking space.
WOOHOO!!
Victory is mine!!
The best thing to do is to use patience. I did a lot of "dry" fitting using small clamps to test the bolt fit before actually riveting. The rails were not a drop in fit on my receiver, so some filing on the rail where it goes under the feed tray area was necessary to get the rail ends to align with the caming piece. The rail was clamped in place and the rivet holes drilled the same time as the receiver. I used the same bucking bar setup as shown in Pirate's build, but all I had to peen the rivets with was a hammer and a punch. Also, rivet the ends of the rails and test fit the bolt before going any further. Peening the two rivets in the ratchet place was the hardest as the space is narrow. The rivets look gnarly and semi rounded, but they're tight.
