Bolt rails, etc

Post by sscav »

Tonight, I was checking the fit of the bolt rails, along with the recuperator, and I have a question as to which rail is "left" and "right". On the "U" shaped end of the rails, one has one flaired end and one straight end, the other rail has two flared ends. Am I right in assuming that the rail with one flaired and one straight end goes on the left side to clear the recoup assy to be able to remove the recuperator?

Also, the BRP receiver doesn't have the front AA sight base. It's milled and the rivet holes are drilled, but no mount base. Any thoughts on where to find one? Northridge and Numrich don't have them.
Numerich does have barrel stubs with the locking collars for $30. Might have to order a few just in case the barrel ban lasts and I need to get some barrel blanks turned.

It's always a learning experience doing this build.

Thanks,
Brian

the 2 flared rail is right, the single flare is left that is a post war left rail made to allow for more clearence on the bottom to fit the recouperator :D

I will assume you got a full brp reciever/dummie?make sure it wasen't supposed to be included with the reciever, what are you using for parts?you will need to find a ww2 reciever to get the aa site mount from, yugo kits do not have this base so if you got a yugo kit it is not gonna be included, another option, probly the simplest is call brian at brp and ask to buy 1 :D

For $20 more you can get the whole barrel from Dan (as long as they last).

AA-OK.com has the barrel stubs for $18.
Dan most likely has the sight parts.

I talked to Dan and he does have the receiver section with the rear sight base. BRP has no bases, they just set their receiver up to add if you want one.
Thanks for all the help guys!

I got the parts kit from IO at the SAR show in Dec. They let me root around through the kits to get one that had decent parts. I also picked up a nice 308 barrel for $80.

The parts kit was a Yugo, and it came with a four cut receiver with all 5 peices and they look to be OK for building. I had to get new grip panels as the kit ones were crushed, and new rails cause one rail was bulged. Other than that it looked good.
