Which finish to use?

Well, the parts is purchased and the ball is rolling. There are a few parts that need to be replaced, but nothing major. In fact the girlfriend ordered a BRP receiver for me for Xmas, but she wrapped it and won't let me get to it until then. (DAMN!) Looking ahead, what finish should I put on this gun? What were the originals guns finished in? And lastly, who is capable of doing the work?
Lots o' questions, but I have no answers.
Thanks,
brian

Man..You have a keeper of a Gfriend brian.
If she bought the whole recvr that brp sells, then you have the easy ability
to buff the metal, and go Dark blue. Some top covers are slick blue from BRP, so you
would be able match that.
Some guys here have black phos. their guns. They look great too.
Black blue looks truely auth. to me.
keep us posted

Yeah, I think the girlfriend's a keeper myself. I don't know what all's in the box, though. She wouldn't even let me peek at it.
Is the bluing done with quarts of cold blue, or is it something a gunsmith has to do. Up here in the part of Vermont (southern) where I live there are no gunsmiths. We have Orvis in Manchester but they charged the girlfriend $250 (no lie!) to put a recoil pad on her '74 Sharps, so they're out of the question. And should I assemble this 42 and then blue it or blue the individual pieces beforehand.
I hope that all my questions won't drive you all to drink. I know there's gonna be lots more of them when assembly time comes.
Thanks again,
Brian

Build it, test it, then tear it down and finish it.

BRP put their Black/Blue oxide finish on my receiver........well worth the money.....matches the remainder of my 42 almost perfectly.
As an aside, I must say the quality of their product and customer service is tops!
