Length of receiver shells shorter than Wiselite built gun?
Length of receiver shells shorter than Wiselite built gun?
Comparing the rear shells from RTG (BRP?) to Wiselite built semi I see that they are an inch or so shorter. Will metal have to be added or how will this impact build? Extension on buffer shorter or no extension needed? Thanks!!!!

Over the years the batf has allowed different cutting lengths for incoming mg42/m53's so they fit differently.
Adding to this brp and wiselite chose to use different length parts.
Which do you need or "want" to work with?? Well that's normally up to the length of the barrel shroud in your parts kit.
Or if you can find a ima 3 cut rear receiver half.
Best thing is to take a pic of you front barrel shroud and post it and let us see it and try to give you our thoughts from there.

wiselite added an inch to their reciever to use a full recoil spring.
No buffer extention needed with original length guns.

My front receiver section is longer clean cut version. Are you thinking weld to end as is or cut back so seam is under trunion?
Thanks!

My thoughts go as to save the camming area as is. It worked before and should work again. That camming area is not something that I would be cutting into. Save as much as you can and cut the wiselite or brp to fit. There are several post on this site for measurements.
Good Luck and be happy that you have that long length.

I second 42rocker's sentiment. If the camming area is intact (as it seams to be), leave it and cut the wiselite or brp piece. An intact camming area is a good thing.

Does anyone know where Wise Lite added that extra inch, to the front or rear of the receiver. Thanks Harry

The receiver is everything from the front barrel bushing threads to the very end of the back. That said the added length is (I believe) been added from the front recup hole on the left side to the rear of the receiver. The brp receiver is of the correct size, same as the German WW2 receiver.
The addition I'm thinking was not just in one spot but overall between the recup hole and the front of the buffer pads.
Check out the brp drawings

Harry if you need more than that post back on this and I'll dig up my wiselite receiver (old style) and check out what you are looking for. Note someone from wiselite (now an ex emp) posted photos where they are (or were) starting a line of new receivers. Don't know how many of these have made it out their door yet or if just in the works. They could be different.

I can only speak to the 2010 model (complete weapon) I purchased from Wiselite. In this model, the extra length is in the very rear end. Basically between where the top cover latches and the tabs that retain the butt stock. About an inch or so.

Thanks I have a newer model and it looks to me that is were the length is as well. I have some cut Original German pieces that I am measuring against. Harry

I believe that it's been discussed here before. More recoil length = softer recoil (less harsh), use softer spring, firing components last a little longer. Since it was designed from the get-go as a semi, rounds/minute wasn't important. Sounds reasonable....Phil
