ok guys. i have two wise lite m53's. i havent fired them much. i basically have one that i run ammo through and the other is not going to be fired. my 8mm mg has apparently decided it doesnt like being neutered any longer and has adopted the f/a mentality. this damn thing ripped through a belt shooting 3, 6, 10 and sometimes more rounds at a time. wtf? has anyone got any upgrades that i can purchase to stop this so i dont have to send it back to wla. i know tony and the whole crew up at wla but im not about to part with my baby for any length of time. somebody help!!!!

The most damage it can do is have ATF seize it and charge you will possession of an unregistered MG. They've done that before with a semi gun that was firing bursts due to mechanical problems.
To stop it from firing. twist the belt or open the cover. Make sure the hammer is caught securely by the trigger system.
What did Wiselite say about it? Rather than have everyone speculate on a problem, it would be simpler to ask the builder.

well, i talked to wiselite and its now worked out. apparently the booster cone was too small resulting in overpressure and the fire control group needed to be replaced. this baby runs like a singer sewing machine!

That was fixed quickly. Glad to hear it. Still think that what they say caused it, is interesting, still thinking on that one.

whatever you do DO NOT OPEN COVER WHILE IT IS FIRING!!! you can twist the belt but best option is get it fixed by WLA they owe it to you and should be responsible for repairing it before you get caught with it or something happens. It may be your baby but wise things take precedence.

In case you missed it, this gun has already been fixed, but:
The cover feeds the belt, it has no other purpose or function. If it's a runaway, opening the cover stops the belt from feeding. It has no other effect on the operation of the gun. The last fired cartridge still ejects out the bottom, and you end up with the bolt closed on an empty chamber. The original German manuals list this as a solution to a runaway.
Please explain why you think the cover should not be opened to stop a runaway.

I have been firing machine guns since i was 13 ( i am now 65) My tutor at that time was a gunsmith that was trained at Aberdeen Proving Ground. I was also taught that the top cover is another protection devise if something goes wrong and a round goes out of battery. When a gun runs away and you have no control the Army way is to twist the belt and create a stoppage. This is the way I explained immediate action when I was an instructor in Special Forces Reserves after I carried a M60 In Vietnam. You of course can do whatever you wish I am saying what My training has taught me over the years. You are correct in the function of the top cover but look at pictures of guns that went awry. The top covers usually bulge but all that extra material also protects. I guess its a matter of how you was trained and what you personal preference is. Its just a tip not something you have to do.

Another way to solve this problem is just have Conrad Murphy do the build

, chances are you will never get your parts back and if you do, the receiver will look like a circus peanut-no chance of any runaway belts
