Fal FCG, striker/fp, and bolt extension test.

I took the day off planing on jury duty but got out of it so gun time for me. Last night my helpfull gun buddy welded on my bolt extension for me and got it crooked so the morning I semi- straightend the piece of square tubing I used and recut the hammer slot. a cocking bar was welded to the bolt (parallel) and then on to the FP.

I decided to follow Pirates lead with the fp hitting the wedge - it solves so many issues, while I was concerned about slam fires, I had none. I did opt for make spacers using a larger piece of dril rod rather than attempt brazing with my map torch (im out of gas). I then used a roll pin to secure the spacer. I searched thru my spring pox and came up with a glock recoil spring (one of the flat coil factory ones) and cut it down and placed a 1/2 inch spacer in front (not attached to the FP).

I also ran into trouble when the feed pin cracked as I was drilling thru it. I just ground it down and peaned it into the top of the extension for now.

Once I got reliable primer 'pops' in the garage (this required me trimming the spring length) and lengthening the rearward portion of the FP. I tried it with out the spring and got a nice slam fired primer. so back in the spring went. And off to the range.

First round bang but the hammer bound on the disconector and was locked too far down. So I fired a few more single shots - after 10 I decided the sear/disconnector was binding on the underside of the hammer. I cut 2 coils out of the little spring and the hammer did better. I fired about 20 more rounds and then had to pack up to pick up the kids. I still need to do some tuning on the sear spring. I also think things will improve if I clean up the parts and add some oil/grease.

I'll post some pics when I get a chance to take them, but Im mister mom today as my wife started back to work. Plus everything is very rough and needs some clean up before published....

the neck of the cases are getting pretty dinged up - any idea what this is from?

on the case necks mine is doin that also when I try loadin a shell with no bullet in it, think it is bein rammed into the barrel breach cause the op cover is not closed to deflect it down

when they are ejected they are kicked out with a LOT of force, and they hit on the neck

no when i TRY LOADIN AN EMPTY CASE IN IT jams into the bblcause I pull the bolt back, case still on it and case is bent

If you want to load emptus to test fire you need to snap them under the extractor. without a bullet they will not feed right

This was a discussion about a month or so back. Jbaum (I think) noted the neck Brass was flung directly
at the pistol grip, and bending the mouth inwards. Everyone that had running guns at the time agreed (as I do) that
was exactly what was happening. One of the guys with F/A decided to put some rubber tubing along the front trigger
guard....and this eliminated the prob. I'm guessing that a shell catcher (bag) would be suffice / original. I really don't care
about romanian steel, but it shure hurts my feelings to see all that nice 308 brass looking likt that.

Tom, If you letting the bolt pick up an empty cartridge off the belt, and throw it forward towards the barrel, I'd
venture to say the mouth is crimping on the bolt extension on the way in. When I checked primers, I'd just stick them in the
barrel, and put the barrel in, then let the bolt come forward on the empty cartridge. I'm quite positvve the bullet head itself is
part of the 'ramping' length needed for round to smoothly make it into the breech.

because the rifle range is an hour away i was planning to pick up some of these .308 blanks to test with in the basement , with proper protection of course.

i believe the crimp were the bullet would be will let it feed correctly.
