Pics of my m53 receiver reweld
Thought I would post a few pics showing my progress so far. Everything seems ok w/the receiver so far: seems to be in alignment, door closes as it should, charging handle works, buttstock attaches easily, bolt slides on the rails easily, locks into the camming piece and unlocks by pushing in on the barrel bearing. Ordered the semi auto grip stic and bolt from BRP. Before welding, I milled out the grip stick slot and inserted a 3/8 stud to prevent a FA bolt from being installed. Will this system work for the BRP bolt? I see he has a block that is welded in instead of the stud. Any other hurdles to overcome using the BRP semi setup.
Was going to Park the receiver tomorrow but found out my tank was only 36" long. Will have to modify the tank a bit. Maybe I'll work on refinishing the stock instead.
Thanks for all your help,
Blake

looks good--- will probably work just fine, before you put the nail polish on her, give her a test run, to make sure she can cook.

That looks very good, I cannot really see a difference between the BRP block vs. the stud, so long as they have the same height so the semi-bolt can clear, it really should not be an issue. Well done-

Thanks guys! The sa gripstick should be in the mail but Brian is out of the bolts at the moment. Should be about 2 weeks before the bolts are done. This will give me plenty of time to finish reading John's manuals.
Re: Pics of my m53 receiver reweld
Looking sweet ! I agree with prussia regarding your bolt, just trim the stud's height as necessary to allow the bolt to pass through without hitting it. By the looks of the BRP blocker in my rear, it's only purpose for being so long, is just to make it harder to remove . It's length does not appear to serve any other purpose

Beautiful welding job!!! I'm really impressed. Did you TIG or MIG it?

Re: Pics of my m53 receiver reweld
I got my gripstick in from BRP today and got the grips fitted and the fcg installed. I'm really pleased with Brian's setup. Its nice to be able to utilize the original grips. Hopefully, tomorrow I will have time to trim the slot in the recouperator for the gripstick and do the final dremel work on the gripstick slot. Should be about a week or so until Brian finishes the next batch of bolts, then I can try this baby out. I see where BRP offers a nut and bolt to be used instead of the rivet for the camming piece. I think I will go this route in case I ever want to remove the camming piece. Anybody else use this instead of the rivet?
Re: Pics of my m53 receiver reweld
I got this on my gun as of right now. I trimmed the bolt so it didn't protrude too much past the nut. I'm not quite sure if the rattling of shooting will cause the nut to go loose or not ?blakesguns wrote:Anybody else use this instead of the rivet?
What i plan on doing is drilling out the end of the bolt, and flaring it out like one of those rivets so that the nut can't just fall off.
