By Jove, I think I got it!!

Post by Pirate »

After farting around with this pesky fail to fire problem for several days, I decided to try
one of the 3/16" firing pins I made. I pressed on a couple of #8 flat washers and soldered them in place, installed the pin and it fired first shot. then I put on the firing pin spring and it didn't fire so I shortned the spring and got it to fire again. then I added a little metal to the top of the hammer and was able to fire 4 times. I am giving it a rest as I don't want
the neighbors getting nervous. I will pull some more bullets and after 5 when everyone goes home I will try it a few time more.
I didn't use the 3/16" pins as I thought they might be to heavy, however they are more ridgid than the .155" ones I was originally trying. Also I drilled the locking wedge and feed stud 3/16" so the slop in the fit may be a problem.

I stayed after work for a while and popped about 10 primers with no problems, the fp
impression is a little shallow, but it seems to work consistantly. ready to go to the range
and live fire it. Using the heavier firing pin seems to be the ticket.
Also getting the hammer to strike the pin at a 90 degree angle is important.

Did another range test today. got the gun to fire a few times. It cycles greadt, loads, ejects and reloads.
But won't fire reliably. punctured some primers and extruded a few. I think I need to replace
the hammer and hammer spring. got new ones on order. I will work on refining the firing
pin and ejector extension while I am waiting for them.
