BRP MG 42 semi auto KITS!

Post by Ken.Abt »

BRP is now offering their semi auto MG 42 as a kit. I have one reserved, don't know when I'll find time to get it, and will send more info when it arrives. You can check it out at http:/www.brpguns.com/42semikit.htm

price is still a little high and the only work you are saving is the reciever reweld, though it still says welding is required as is tinkering and riviting, this is a good alternative when kits with "good" cuts are no longer available cause they state NO WARRENTY, all they did is some trigger and bolt mods total to do them parts and labor is around $250 + kit $465 some welding and tinkering still probly under $1k

I'd be in for a reciever. Let them know that there is a market out here.

BRP kits

Post by Ken.Abt »

I'll be talking with Brian tomorrow, he has a backlog of guns now so don't expect anything cheap. Even with the prices over 5k he has too much work. The guns are a sideline to the machine work. As I have NO spare time even saving a few hours of welding is a godsend. I'll be taking a lot of pictures and try to pass them on but this may take a LONG time.

The link says that an ATF letter will be sent with the kit. Would you be willing to post that letter here when it arrives?

BRP letter

I asked Brian about that several months ago. He was surprised one hadn't been posted already. I'll ask him if it's OK with him and get back with you. I don't see him saying no but want to check first.

You guys are on the ball, I to just saw this today. They must have had a change of heart I know a few other reenactors that have had their gun for a while but have had no success getting a copy of the approval letter.
Not like it means anything :?

BRP Letter

Post by Ken.Abt »

I just spoke with Brian, he has a cold and may not be taking calls today, he doesn't mind if I post the letter. I'll be picking up the kit on Saturday. If I can get my piece of *&$# scanner to work you should see it then. He mentioned that one major point of approval was new sheet metal. BATF turned it down until then. I'm not sure what they would do with rewelds.

well if you look at the brp site it appears they import live weapons then demil so once an mg always an mg but once demilled they are scrap so rewlding in essence is creating a "new" reciever, it is a catch 22 thing, if brp could simply import and modify ww2 guns their profit would go through the roof(and probly the price) just my $.02

BRP guns

Post by Ken.Abt »

Brian gets his kits already demilled through Marstar Canada. New Canadian regs mean the demills are different from ours. Canada allows for saw cut demills and doesn't specify the cut points. Making them fit both countrys regs is a pain. I was able to get a very early MG 42 kit. The entire front is intact but the rear is cut to hell and one piece is missing. I've got the rear receiver parts from BRP and hope to get it back together one day.

sound like a road trip to canada for some saw cut recievers.

any one have a car with a secret compartment for the trip back to the states :P

Marstar

Post by Ken.Abt »

No need to risk jail, humiliation or worse ( Hi, i'm bubba yo new cellmate ). Call Marstar and see if he has what you want, fill out a BATF form 6, send it registered/fedex/ups to BATF and wait. You may need to buy some of the receiver parts to complete it though. I've gotten some great stuff from them but it does take a while.

Marstar

Post by Ken.Abt »

Forgot the only bad part, other than dealing with BATF import branch. Canadian regs require Marstar to keep the rear 3 inchs of the receiver. That's the part with the serial numbers. I guess it's to prove they destroyed it. :(
