Spring loaded feed studs

Post by big steve »

Can someone tell me if a spring loaded feed stud bolt carrer can be made to work in a semi? I read that Pirate doesn't like to use them. I have a mill and a lathe and can make a stronger stud if I knew what to make. Or should I look for the other kind?
Thanks,B Steve

I am the guilty party that sent him the spring loaded carrier that he posted.I did make it a little easier for him by TIG welding the bottom of the stud shut tight. There was a guy advertising in the "Wanted" section a while back who was offering a swap out of carriers. He was doing an even trade of solid stud for the spring loaded type for his registered FA MG42.

WooHoo,

Just received my awesome kit from Dan and I have the same scenario. Big Steve beat me to the punch of this post while i was trying to figure out the stupid digital camera again to take pics.

I will definitely be sending off for this.

Can you guys tell me if this would work. Could a guy make a feed stud that would weld on to or screw in to the bolt carrier? Is there any reason it has to go all the way through and have a hole in it? The kit I got from Pirate already has a bushing for the firing pin so the hole in the stud doesn't need to be there to center it. Thanks,Big Steve

you still need the hole in the pin to hold it centered for the hammer to strike it properly

i believe that bushing was intended to serve as a guide for drilling your feed stud perfectly centered. i hope you haven't welded it to the ejector button.

Ok I understand that now! I did not know the bushing was a drill guide only. Dan said he would swap out bolt carriers with me so I will be send it back monday.
Thanks again Guys!

For those of you with the spring loaded feed studs. These do not lend themselves to the conversion. the reason being the diameter of the stud is a lot smaller than the solid ones and will break off with use. If you are doing your own conversion you can try to use it. However I am doing this for others and do not want to send out parts I feel wil break after a short time. You can get another carrer from Dan for 20 or 30 $$. or if you got a kit from him exchange it. I also offer completed bolt carriers with a solid stud
