Rail Placement

Post by sscav »

Last night I did some trial fitting os a set of post war rails in the BRP receiver to check fit and alingment before attacking with the drill and rivets. After much trial, error, and filing I was able to get the bolt to slide nice and smooth. My question is how high in the receiver should the rails be? In pic #1 the left rail is right at the top under the feed opening. Is this correct?
In pic #2 the right rail is placed on top of the right side to show the filing that had to be done to allow the bolt to enter the caming piece. I'm assuming that rails aren't a "drop in" fit.
Any thoughts?

Your fitting is normal for the rails, they do run "high" in the receiver, I seen many that were ground down to fit "high" in the rear. Most important with the post war rails is length, as much as a 1/4" may have to be removed at the front to allow the camming piece to fit properly.
FWIW,
