Re: Pictures of the rare and finally mine SSD BD38
That would do it. I didn't see a spring in your pics and just figured you weren't showing it. It makes me think if there was enough room to fit the pin with the spring in the hole then there probably was one originally and it went missing. If there wasn't there should have been as you now know.

Re: Pictures of the rare and finally mine SSD BD38
Thanks for posting. They came up with pretty much what I was going to do for my next one. Would you be willing to post some pics of the rear receiver lugs and how it interfaces with the lower?
Thanks,
Kevin

Re: Removing postwar paint??
I've used acetone with great success removing postwar paint from many helmets with virtually no effect to the wartime paint or original decals. I have turned many a bubba'd metalflake paint jobed helmet back to it's original wartime look. Just go slow and test an area first, some of that postwar pai...

Re: WTB: ZB 26/30 Barrel
HI John,
Have you taken the flash hider off at all? How far does the steel barrel itself extend past the gas port hole? I'm interested but need to know if this one will work with mine.

Re: Tig or wire feed?
Sorry, i should have been clearer. I know there is no trunnion in a MG42. I need a trunnion tig welded to a tube that is being built into a Semi MP38 with the SSR 40 kit as the basis. I needed to have a different tube then what came with the kit and I have an original MP38 trunnion that I want welde...

Re: Tig or wire feed?
Tig welding is not something I have any experience with. Can anyone recommend someone that can provide that service? I don't need them to build the firearm, I just need a trunnion welded to an uncut tube. Since this is a pretty critical part I want someone who can do a professional job.

Need welder for SSR - 40/38 project
I need to find someone who has lots of experience tig welding receiver tubes back together. I am building one of the SSR40 kits as a pistol build. I am taking a different path though and making it as an MP38. As a result I needed to use a different tube. I got the tube and decided since it was a pis...

Re: WTS Repro MP40 mags
I have no problem with it. I have a few originals here and the markings are dead on, that's why I asked. They look really good and I thought maybe someone found some original dies somewhere.M1 Tanker wrote:Guys, regardless of how we marked them....they work in MP40s....just like a MP41 mag.

Re: WTS Repro MP40 mags
Cool. They look pretty good. I'm curious, why did you guys mark them MP41? Did someone come up with the original tooling somewhere?

Re: Putting the rear sight assembly back on a K98
Yep. No easy answer on this. They were both high temp silver soldered on. Take it to a gunsmith, they should be able to do this for you easy and should not be too terribly expensive.

Re: Value of an SS double decal helmet?
Yeah, but there are some benefits, for instance there's less of a chance that the government is going to take away your rights to own rare helmets and you don't need to pay any special taxes or get approval from anyone to buy them.

Re: Value of an SS double decal helmet?
Just to put it out there; this helmet is part of the collection belonging to John Barrett; who started collecting back when you could buy Mp40's for $15, and founded the Michigan Military Museum; and now is selling off his collection. I bought a mint Mp44 dummy gun from him. He told me that he boug...

Re: Value of an SS double decal helmet?
Run screaming from that helmet. It is as fake as they come. The metal shell may be wartime and the liner too but that paint and those decals aren't. I've been collecting german helmets for more than 30 years and that is not even a fair repro.
