Ahh, I see it now. Hidden in plain sight.
John, thanks for your contributions here and everywhere else to keep these guns running!

Re: Pieced primers / primer flow
I do see the 1.35mm min spec on page 65 of your translated HDv 181/7, but for whatever reason, I can't seem to find the gauge drawing. I bought a few of your translations a couple of years back. I'm still waiting for you to do a semi auto armorer's manual. Lol. The manual also mentions shortening th...

Re: Pieced primers / primer flow
What's the concensus on pin protrusion? 0.045“-0.057"?
And is it OK to file and polish the tip?
Headspace was checked a few years ago. I could check that again.

Pieced primers / primer flow
I've done a lot searching but can't seem to find ideas on how to fix this. I've always had some catering or flow of the primer into the firing pin hole, but today I had my first pierced or blown primer and a piece plugged into the FP hole. For the record, this is a reweld semi auto with a brand new ...

SA Roller Pin / Feed Stud Fit to Bolt Carrier
I tried doing some searching and came across a few build threads here and other places, but no where did I see the recommended fit for inserting a knurled roller pin into the bolt carrier. Looks like if I leave this set as is, I've got around .006" interference at the top of the roller stud, and .01...

Are you feeding from a belt only? Or a drum? My 42 semi won't feed from a drum at all.

Re: Hammer follow
I did get the nose pieces swapped and that nearly eliminates the bind. There's still a little when I remove the recoil spring and slide the bolt all the what to the rear, but not enough to cause malfunction. I had a very successful outing with the MG42 SA and my father the other weekend. We put arou...

Re: Hammer follow
The damn stickies! I read through them a few years ago but had forgotten all about them. Thanks for the reminder...very helpful. According to the sticky, the other two buffers don't have the groove cut near the threads like the German buffer one I posted above does. The German one also has a bit lar...

Re: Damage to casing neck after shooting?
I'll buy that. Your pic shows nice clean dents or caving in. The case on the right in his pic looks like it was crushed head on, sort of like it didn't clear the ejection port and the bolt ran into it or rammed it into the ejection port.

Re: Hammer follow
That is a Steyr butt stock. Pardon my lack of knowledge, but what marking is this on the buffer? Is that a Yugo mark? 20180729_160211.jpg If so, what do you mean that the Yugo buffer won't fit the stock? It assembles just fine. I have two other buffer and butts in various parts kits laying around. T...

Re: Hammer follow
That's a significant taper! Not that I've seen a lot of semi converted MG42's, but mine doesn't have that much length ahead of the spring. I suppose I could reduce the diameter a little, but I'd rather leave it original if possible. And is that end piece of my buffer thru hard or case hard? I think ...

Re: Hammer follow
Another mostly successful day at the range. Fired ~50 rounds between two different ammunitions and it behaved near perfect. I did have two F2eject. This was caused by binding between the bolt carrier extension and buffer. It seems that I have excess clearance allowing for some rocking of the buffer....

Re: Damage to casing neck after shooting?
High speed photography would solve this question immediately. Try putting a rubber pad (piece of radiator hose or similar) on the front of the trigger guard to see if the brass is twirling into it upon ejection. That's what it was on mine, the rubber pad worked well. I also had the bolt moving pret...

Re: Hammer follow
Thanks for that link robertmcw. I've been there several times in my various searches working on this project and didn't notice that was the grip stick. It definitely doesn't work with the original safety or panels as it sits. I'll have to see if I can modify it to accept a safety. I really don't wan...

Re: Hammer follow
I have not tried a different recoil spring but I'll see if I have another one for SA. I guess I was worried about the excess speed because, like you mentioned, most MG42 SA rifles have the opposite and I don't want it to beat itself up. Would a worn recuperator allow excess bolt speed? Mine takes ab...

Re: Hammer follow
Getting closer. I don't get to spend a lot of time on this project. To clarify, I've actually spent a lot of time on it, just much time consecutively, more like a day or two this month and a day or two the next month. I got some good advice from BRP in that my bolt is running too fast. He gave two o...

Are there any reasons this wouldn't work in semiauto? Have you done any testing in a semiauto 42?

Re: Where to buy loose bolt head?
What about shimming the barrel extension to increase chamber length or machining the barrel's shoulder shorter to decrease chamber length to make it headspace with the various bolt heads?
