Re: MG34 308 conversion parts
I have a 308 conversion kit I purchased many years ago and was just getting ready to try it out again. I can't remember who I purchased it. I've heard from BRP today that some barrels have come apart. My barrel looks like the same dimensions as the stock 8mm barrels with a cut, shortened and welded ...

Re: RKI: Anyone With Experience Using OOW MG34 .308 Conversion?
I purchased my 308 MG34 conversion many years ago and I can't remember where I got it from. I haven't fired it for years but remember it seemed worked OK. I also remember I never fired many rounds through it. Can anyone help me out and let me know if my conversion kit is OK to shoot. The outside of ...

Re: Check your MG34 "booster cone" ...a possible warni
In talking with BRP, they indicated it is not the hole size but the volume size of the 7.62 booster cone that allows the 7.62 cone to give the greater back pressure needed.

Re: Booster cone hole sizes
The heavy bolt requires a different buffer. Without it, the bolt beats the back of the gun to death (stress cracks, separated spot welds for the buffer tabs in the receiver).
The problem is that heavy bolts are available in the US, and the matching heavy buffers are not.

Re: Check your MG34 "booster cone" ...a possible warni
I'm not sure why the booster cone that came with my pre-86 DS MG34 has the hole size so small (8.9mm). Maybe the previous owner had cycling problems and this covered it up. Either way, this is now my new project gun so I'll try the 11mm cone for 8mm ammo and start checking all the other parts to see...

Re: Check your MG34 "booster cone" ...a possible warni
After reading this and previously checking my booster cones on my MG42, I thought I better check my MG34 booster cone hole size. It is a good thing I did as I have not fired the gun in quite a few years and it needed cleaning like no tomorrow. Anyway, I measured the booster cone size as close as I c...

Re: Booster cone hole sizes
As per GERMAN MACHINEGUNS by Daniel D. Musgrave on page 326, "Several variations of the 'Ruckstossduse', or 'recoil nozzle,' exist. They differ in the diameter of the hole through which the bullet and the propellant gases pass. The diameter was 11.5mm on the World War II guns; for the same guns this...

Re: receiver dimensions for welding
Just a quick update. The MG3 recoil tubes were bent slightly but is now fixed. The gun fits both tripod cradles fine.

Re: Wiselite Receiver build
Just a quick update. My MG3 tripod had slightly bent recoil tubes. A large pipe wrench fixed it so the gun fits the cradle and the recoil springs work fine. Looking for a gun release latch if anyone knows where to find one.

Re: What is the going rate on an mg42/34 reweld?
I like the shipping box above. Can I buy one? What paint was used in this restoration? Was it Duracoat. For your information, my race car builder friend helped me tig weld my cut M53 receiver years ago for $96.43. Cheap considering it was his welding equipment and his supervision. Most of his time w...

Re: Are MG42 and MG3 Extractors Cut the Same....?
I also had to replace a WW2 extractor on a WW2 bolt. I compared mg3, WW2 Nazi and M53 extractors and they not only looked the same but fired the same. If their are any differences I can't find it. The WW2 bolt now has a later MG3 extractor in it and it works fine with both 8mm and 7.62mm.

Re: Wiselite Receiver build
My m53 FA receiver is 37 5/8" and will fit the WW2 ground tripod but will not fit the MG3 tripod. The MG3 tripod has about 1/8" shorter mounts than the WW2 ground mount tripod. Not sure if anyone else noticed this. I assume I should elongate the MG3 tripods mounts rather than shorten the m53 mountin...

Re: receiver dimensions for welding
I checked my M53 FA receiver length and it measured, as close as can tell, 37 5/8". The gun shoots well but will not fit the cradle of my new MG3 ground mount tripod. The mg3 ground tripod mounting points are to close together by about an eighth of an inch or less. It fits my Yugo ground tripod WW2 ...

Re: Please help! MG42 fires only 1 to 8 rnds
I'm not meaning to renew an old post, but I could not find a better place to add this. I tested my recuperator using a bathroom scale. FA mg53 weighs 26 lbs resting on the scale. I then push down on the barrel bushing (muzzle down flash hider removed) until the bushing bottoms and the scale shows 45...
