Re: gfv-64 East German belt loader.
Wow. Holy crap. I was figuring they would be worth a good coin but hadn't quite imagined that. I'm more blown away that one can't find any 7.62 loaders except for maybe on GB where they get crazy money too when they used to apparently be given away with purchase of bulk ammo or sold for less than it...

gfv-64 East German belt loader.
http://www.smallarmsreview.com/display.article.cfm?idarticles=1984 After doing quite a bit of research I believe this is the best loader me guys with several belt fed guns. The issue is with finding them. Are there any for sale anywhere that anyone knows of? I've looked high and low. Short of knowin...

Re: .308 to 8mm belt loader conversions ready
Sorry to bring up an old dead thread. But is there still someone selling these conversions? Did they work well?
I was originally curious if the 8mm one would do .308 also but seems like that's not possible....
Is there any way to go back and forth on the calibers? That would be ideal.
Thanks
JM

Re: Mg42 does not cycle 8mm but cycles 7.62 (conversion)
One would think Google search would come up with something on the brass catcher. I don't appreciate being attacked fyi. Vet or not it's not cool ok. Take a deep breath please. Obviously I didn't expect it to be normal for it to contact the receiver in the channel or the fit of the top cover to be of...

"SA42" Bump Fire with no anti bounce spring.
Ok. So took my "SA42" out the other day and found that it's quite easy to bump fire. I think it's a combination of light trigger pull and the weight/momentum of the bolt closing. Maybe it's just me... It's not that fast thank god but it's kinda fun. However I soon wondered if it's risky because the ...

Re: Mg42 does not cycle 8mm but cycles 7.62 (conversion)
It's unreal how images of how the shell bag attaches to the receiver are non existent. How does the brass cather/shell bag attach? So in fitting the top cover and feed tray for the 7.62 kit I determined that the WLA receiver is not welded on center line of the barrel shroud. Kind of remember thinkin...

Re: Mg42 does not cycle 8mm but cycles 7.62 (conversion)
My rails were so tight I had to lap the rails in with Diamond lapping compound and a dead blow hammer. This was acording to wiselite normal with the clamshell type receiver. It slides nicely. What grease do you guys use? I'm using both oil and grease. Grease on the rails oil on the other components....

Re: Mg42 does not cycle 8mm but cycles 7.62 (conversion)
Haha. Ok. Thanks. I already have been. I wasn't trying to be a smart ass. Just put out there I have experience and am not completely inept. I would agree however these guns are a total different breed. They are fascinating and a pita at the same time. The operating principal is ingenious...granted t...

Re: Mg42 does not cycle 8mm but cycles 7.62 (conversion)
Sorry my page must not be reloading the new replies all the time. I'm not new to the gun build world by any means. I've restricted a dewat (in legal semiautomatic form) Russian ak47 that had the barrel on both ends welded shut, bolt welded shut, fcg welded to itself/inside of receiver/bcg, and had t...

Re: Mg42 does not cycle 8mm but cycles 7.62 (conversion)
Ok. Did the pogo test without bolt and recoil spring installed. If it's supposed to be done with them in you need to clarify that. -7.62 barrel and bearing pass A+++ -7.62 barrel with 8mm bearing pass but allot weaker return power. -8mm barrel with 8mm bearing pass...but not even close to the umph t...

Re: Mg42 does not cycle 8mm but cycles 7.62 (conversion)
Still curious if the pogo is done with the bolt and recoil spring installed? Well they did better than some of the guns coming from century so I can at least be thankful for that. The did however rub me wrong when I got their bolt and grip for my build and they told me the bolt was the same design a...

Re: Mg42 does not cycle 8mm but cycles 7.62 (conversion)
Ok. Did the Google search thing and kind of know what you mean by pogo. Pretty much what I figured you were meaning. I haven't done the test as a test...so I can't be sure and there is nothing with specifics I found as the proper way to pogo test. I've done it when I accidentally dropped my bolt in ...

Re: Mg42 does not cycle 8mm but cycles 7.62 (conversion)
Sorry not sure what the pogo test is. The barrel floats easy but the bearing isn't retained when the barrel is removed.

Re: Mg42 does not cycle 8mm but cycles 7.62 (conversion)
1 I've had issues with the 7.62 cover and feed tray binding and haven't had allot of time to get the tight spots located so I've been running the 8mm top cover and feed tray with the 7.62 barrel etc. 2 Correct. 8mm short cycles every time. I've tried the ultra hot yugo stuff too. I'm confused on pro...

Re: Mg42 does not cycle 8mm but cycles 7.62 (conversion)
Tried the 11.5mm one from my dealer tonight. Still no go. I wonder if it could be the barrel bearing is worn out??? What is the fit supposed to be on that? I've noticed when I pop the barrel out the bearing always follows it out. This I would think would be an issue in battle if the bearing comes ou...

Lol I know. Just was surprised. No other board I've been on has been set up like that.

Re: Mg42 does not cycle 8mm but cycles 7.62 (conversion)
I'll see if my ffl has a smaller booster cone I can try. He thinks he just might have one. Thanks guys. Good to know I'm on the right track. I'm pretty sure search is just like most other things I've found here where I need to have 10 posts or something to use it. I've done my best using Google to s...

Mg42 does not cycle 8mm but cycles 7.62 (conversion)
I know I'm new here. I've been following and reading this board for quite awhile through my build. What I've got. Early production mg42. Was cut behind the caming section so it would fit in a relatives footlocker. The original rear receiver was lost or destroyed throughout time. I acquired it after ...
