Re: WTS: Lewman Arms MG42 welding jigs

Is there a way I could rent one of these? I have just one 42 to build and wow, they really look like nice jigs!

Re: Rear receiver options

I think my tig skills are pretty darn good. I figured out by the markings it was a late war. I'd love to find a reveiver back half from the war (or even late war by the same maker). However, I've decided to reconstruct a 3 cut Yugo back half. I have the blacker in and most of the back half done. I j...

Re: Converting 8mm topcover to 308

Are we getting nomenclature crossed? I now have a couple .308 top covers, and I swear on my grandma's grave the feed pawl in the only internal that's the same. The connecting lever is longer on the 308, and the operating lever has the notch in the side of the 308, but I can't find anything different...

Wow! I know a guy who spent that much having a reproduction of that exact same coat custom made!

Rear receiver options

I recently aquired a very nice wartime receiver front half (with front bushing and camming section intact, i might add :) ). Anyway, I'm now in the market for a rear half to weld it to and I came across the new milled receivers Wiselite has come out with. Has anyone built anything with them? Besides...

Re: MG42 Catastrophic failures

Wow, no bueno. Mine's a welded together M53, and I've had maybe 3-4,000 rounds through it without any welding or repairs needing to happen. The charging lug came off the bolt once, but that's the bolt.

Re: Where to buy barrel extensions?

I have no answer for the first question. :D As for the second, I can only speak for myself. What kind of blank adaption? Have you thought of turning out 2-piece blank barrel assemblies? You could greatly simplify the machining of the "front barrel", too.

Re: Top cover opening after firing on M53

+1 to what DA said. I'll bet it's not grabbing enough meat on the receiver. Does it click down really easy? If that is the problem, you can dab a little metal in with the Tig. If you don't have a welder, get a new top cover and hope you get one that either fits or is too tight. If it's too tight, ju...

Re: Converting 8mm topcover to 308

Yessss!!! Thank you!!!! I converted her to 308 a while ago, but I left the top cover in 8mm configuration. It worked, for a while. Lately, though, she's had problems feeding. I've highly suspected the top cover since I could clearly see it just wasn't able to pull the belt in far enough, but haven't...

Converting 8mm topcover to 308

A simple question, but one I can't seam to find an answer to, despite the sheer amount of information on this website. My question is: Can I convert a Yugo 8mm top cover to 308 by swiching out the connection lever and feed pawls? Is the distance between the posts that hold these two pieces the same ...

Lots of parts

Alas, my wife just gave birth to our second daughter on Monday, and I should really start downsizing and raising a little cash. If bought from RTG, this pile of parts would cost almost $800. I'd like to sell them all as a package for $500. I'd also take a .308 topcover and feed tray in partial trade...

Re: question/idea about semiauto bolt

O MUH GERD!!! Night and day. I tested the 2 piece barrel with a 1/8" hole in the muzzle restricting screw and it worked like a charm. I left the booster out and got the big star flash out of plastic blanks.

Re: question/idea about semiauto bolt

1. Neither. I finally got it to work if it didn't vent any gas out the front through the flash hider. 2. It does work with the plastic blanks now. 3. No hole in the BFA. You can obviously see the problem there. The cases are all crushed from over gassing and there's no flash out the muzzle. The lead...

Re: question/idea about semiauto bolt

It might weaken and you you might get some cracking eventually. The key word is might. It is cast, but I don't know exactly what kind of steel it is. Frankly, from a scientific perspective, I don't have a clue if that would lead to faliure or not (I'm sorry, I know that doesn't help much). I don't e...

Re: What papers do you keep with your SA'42

I was stopped by police and I had a 1919a4 kit. They confiscated the kit and let me go. After 6 months of calling and harassing them, they finally gave it back. The impression I took away from it was as long as you're legal and trying to be legal, it'll all work out in the end, just don't expect it ...

*Blush* You caught me. At the time this picture was taken, I only had one barrel. I just keep swiching it from gun to gun to build and test them. I just got two more .308 barrels though, so that should help.

Re: question 1. Need help with FA MG42 - ejection issues

Oh man I love this thread! Occam's razor prevails once again! The other day I tested one of my newly built M53s and it didn't function worth a darn. All I had to do was clean out cosmoline that was freezing up in the cold weather zapping energy from the bolt.

Re: Length of receiver shells shorter than Wiselite built gu

I second 42rocker's sentiment. If the camming area is intact (as it seams to be), leave it and cut the wiselite or brp piece. An intact camming area is a good thing.
