Re: My Latest Addition - MG42
Patty 218, Congratulations on your MG42. I like the patina on your gun and the accessories that you have added. The markings are great. I am surprised how the deac was done in the U.K. where you can still remove the barrel....very fortunate. Our two MG42s passed by Yugo at one point...your original ...

By 1944 most of the P.38 holsters where the softshell model. A few manufacturers still made the hardshell holster. The holster shown below is one of these 1944 dated hardshell holsters. “gmo” is the code for Rahm&Kampmann Lederwarenfabriken, Werk Kaiserslautern, Rheinland-Pfalz WaA 204 is their WaA ...

Two P.38s with 1943 softshell holsters & mags.
The 1943 dated softshell holsters are not that common as they were only made by a few manufacturers at that time. Most of the holsters for P.38s at that point were the hardshell model. These 1943 softshell holsters differ from the later produced softshell model as the closing strap was upward instea...

Re: 1917 dated Artillery Luger rig, unit marked, with TM08
Back in 2005 before I knew how to post stuff, Jan Still did a presentation of this pistol on his forum….this is his stuff from back then. History of the 122 Füsilier Regiment during World War I, written by surviving members of the Regiment and published in 1921. It details the World War I battle his...

Re: 1917 dated Artillery Luger rig, unit marked, with TM08
42rocker, With regard to history. There is no doubt that this Artillery rig was brought back by a Canadian soldier. That specific history I know nothing about. Around the time that I bought the Artillery rig I was also doing some research on my Wife’s Grandfather. He was the CO of the Eastern Ontari...

Re: 1917 dated Artillery Luger rig, unit marked, with TM08
42rocker. This is the first time a situation like this happened to me. When I bought this Artillery Luger I asked the seller who he bought it from.....and when. I managed to find the previous seller who told me that he had since found a magazine that he thought went with the Artillery. Apparently he...

Re: 1917 dated Artillery Luger rig, unit marked, with TM08
Thanks 42rocker. This is the only WWI piece that I own. This gun came with a spare magazine shown below. (An Erfurt armourer magazine) I later found the matching magazine from a previous owner....it had been separated from the pistol for twenty four years.....pretty good luck. One of the unusual asp...

Re: 1937 and 1938 code S/42 P.08 rigs both with matching mag
Apparently Capt. Beverly (Bev) Dane Baily was good at trigonometry and supposedly once said - “Either they teach the flyers trig or they teach the gunners how to fly.” No. 665 "Air Observation Post" Squadron, RCAF was formed in England during the Second World War. It was manned principally by Royal ...

Re: 1937 and 1938 code S/42 P.08 rigs both with matching mag
General salt6, Some years ago I started researching the service of the Vet that brought back the 1937 S/42 rig. The following is from my notes...very quickly. The book shown below was written by the Son of one of the AOP 665 gunners. Also shown is the record of the Vets recent funeral. Baily learned...

Re: 1937 and 1938 code S/42 P.08 rigs both with matching mag
General salt6, These rigs are not for sale, and won't be for a long time. The 1937 dated S/42 was given to me by an old family friend who picked it up immediately following the Battle for Dunkirk on May 10th 1945 just after the German surrender in Europe. That is an interesting story by itself. Davi...

Re: Gustloff assembled MG42 1943-Some questions.
Thanks for the suggestion 42rocker, if I ever get to Knob Creek, I will remember the "Y". It occurred to me that because the buffer is welded to the frame (as part of the deactivation) and there is no screw head to get the buttstock off it would be a very awkward job trying to strip the paint from t...

Re: Gustloff assembled MG42 1943-Some questions.
42rocker, This stock marking definitely ties this gun to the Yugos......it would be difficult to remove without butchering the stock. 1.TRZ stands for “Privi Technicki Remontni Zavod” or First Technical Overhaul Facility located in Cacak, Serbia formerly Yugoslavia. With the exception of the stock m...

Re: Gustloff assembled MG42 1943-Some questions.
42rocker, I appreciate all your suggestions, however, the 5447 serial number on the butt stock was put there by the Yugos not the Germans, this gun has that history and there is no denying it. Would I prefer an unpainted stock.....yes. Did the Yugos paint the stock ....most probably. I would be tryi...

Re: Gustloff assembled MG42 1943-Some questions.
Thanks 42rocker for your comments, I appreciate them. I went back to my notes taken after I purchased the gun, and this is what I found. There are three WaA4 acceptance stamps on the top of the receiver just ahead of the butt stock. Top cover markings – 5447, two WaA519 stamps, with the code “cof” L...

Re: Gustloff assembled MG42 1943-Some questions.
Thanks Jonathan for posting photos of your two 1943 dated Gustloff assembled MG42s…serial numbered 4362 and 5237. They are indeed close relatives as my gun is serial numbered 5447. According to Folke Myrvang’s book the low serial number range for these 1943 dated code “dfb” guns was 1543 with the hi...

Re: Gustloff assembled MG42 1943-Some questions.
I decided to re-post some of the photos that got cut short with the transfer from Photobucket. In looking through previous posts I noticed that there were photos of other guns with the "plum" colored camming pieces. It seems that many people have questions about butt stocks.....German or Yugo...wood...
