Re: tula 308 problems.

I have a whole lot of steel-cased, copper-plated-steel-bullet WW2 German 8mm MG ammo, so it's not something particular to those as-such, but likely something in the details of the Tula .308. It does work well in a 1919.

Re: Break-Free Waterproofing?

A hose-down with silicone spray works for short periods of exposure (eg: a few hours in an outdoor display or misty day at the range) but leaves it very shiny. Boeshield for somewhat longer-term (eg: few days outside in a display or months plus indoors). It leaves a waxy film that should not be used...

Re: TNW 34 going full auto

I do know people that have had semi-autos go full-auto due to defective & worn parts that have been able to bring them to gunsmiths to be repaired with ATF knowledge and without trouble. One was even in presence of two ATF agents at the range. A pistol with too light of a trigger job doubled twice. ...

Re: Questions about mg08

Hmm thanks for the advice. If purchased I could Remove the side plates and how much would the rest sell for If you purchase it with both sideplates, you are breaking the law by having it-- if it's papered (and we are hoping it is), you haven't gone through the NFA transfer process. If it isn't pape...

Re: Questions about mg08

The LSP is the "machinegun" on a Maxim, right? The only way to get this particular gun legally is you can buy everything but that plate, which would have to be removed and destroyed (and until then the gun without papers is illegal) before you have any sort of possession. Then you could replace that...

Re: Phil Ordance 80% question

The biggest issue is the broach channels down the length of the 34 receiver. The Phil Ord 80% does not have those. If you can get creative enough to cut them (broach, EDM, shaper, etc), then the rest should be relatively easy.

Re: Opinions on Bespoke, Italian, Tourism Business Idea.

You might need to screw around getting guide permits (although who knows in Italy), but custom-guiding is pretty successful in parts of the world. I was on a tour like that (not WW2, natch) in Peru a few years back. The guide has a few pre-planned itineraries that they use as starting points, then e...

Re: Reloading thoughts

Dillon's electrical warrantee has been 1 year for almost as long as I've been reloading. Still sucks when something breaks (and for some reason it's the tumblers that do it more than any), but the motors on my 1050 and 650 casefeeders and primer filler have loaded somewhere north of 180,000 rounds t...

Re: What papers do you keep with your SA'42

I would have the entire semi-auto manual handy. Something in plain English in addition to an ATF letter might make for easier side-of-the-highway reading. Most cops know that there are legal semi-auto versions of M16's and AK-47s and so on out there and those guys don't haul around approval letters ...

Evaporust is great stuff for getting rid of rust, but don't mix it with other rust removers.

Re: MG42 banned?

Good Luck. You can build as many semi auto parts as you want when you want. As I understand it. It's just the receiver and finishing the weapon. Therefore as I understand it you could work on as many semi auto bolts and clean up and finish up about anything that you want to have ready. Idea on date...

Re: MG42 banned?

If (and it's a huge IF), another ban is like the last one, then you would be best off if you had some sort of proof you had the firearm in it's "evil" configuration prior to the ban. Witnesses, Photos, etc , whatever is better than nothing.

Sadly, if you can get the merchandising deals, the TV show is worth a whole pile more cash. The wrench-throwing motorcycle dudes make millions on T-shirts and accessories. The profit on the bikes is miniscule by comparison.

Re: legal "landmine"?

. The 1919a4 and RPD have two completely different cuts for these two purposes. Are there any other guns that have a neuter and "relieving cut" (for lack of a beter term) in one? The Sterling semi-auto is done similarly-- milling the bolt for the blocking bar also removes the open-bolt catch shelf ...

"pull-back-bolt-and-let-fly" FA is also verboten. See the "Sputter Gun" rulings.

Best plan is not to get into that situation and mod the bolt first, but.....

Re: Belt loader storage

It's quite a trick to puzzle-fit all the pieces in. I had the same problem and with a bunch of googling, found a picture of how it all goes, but I've long since forgotten where that was. I think it's also in the books. If none of those help, I can dig mine out and photograph it.

If you go with replaceable barrels, make sure a real one can't be swapped in. Welding the breech shut won't help if somebody can just drop a live one in.
