Thanks for the insight. That's a good idea. If I see him again I'll mention that.

34 barrel shroud bushing popped out
I saw a guy at an mg shoot monkeying around with the receiver and barrel and when he engage the receiver stud into the shroud...out popped this bushing from the end of the barrel shroud hole for the receiver stud. The guy just dusted it off and slid it back into the forward end of the barrel shroud ...

Re: pic request... '34 vs 42 barrel carriers...
I assume you need something period style for the general correct look. If not, and you just wanted to carry a barrel without denting it up, I'd just glue together something out of irrigation pvc tubing with a threaded cap. It can be thrown then into the back of a pickup and still arrive safe. This s...

Re: Doppeltrommel on sturm
I thought I recalled seeing pictures where there was an arrow and a set of central tension adjusters, but I don't trust my memory. The seller was declaring that the drum mag was 'very different' from a DT15 one that he had looked over. Well...maybe not. Since it looks like it laid in a farmers field...

Doppeltrommel on sturm
I saw this add in case anyone cared. I can't recall the differences between the 15 and 34 mags, a tension adjustment I think. Anyhow, this one looks pretty rough and I'm not so sure its the right mag - but just in case: http://www.sturmgewehr.com/webBBS/parts.cgi?read=301514 It's not mine and maybe ...

Re: mg42 8mm feed chute
I'm way out of my league in this discussion, but I thought I'd mention that robert.rtg has these: RARE: German DM-6 Improved Disintegrating Links 100-Pack with Starter $9.99 120-Pack w/Starter and MG3 120rd Ammo Box $40 I think they are for 7.62 and not 8mm and don't know if they would work for that...

Re: wts mg34 recievers
Tom,
Your receivers look very nice.
It is not clear to me, but are they missing the lower right rail from middle to front that has the lower front grip pin lug?

mgfun

Wow. A masonry bit. That is so interesting. I would have never even thought about that. That's a little tidbit that can be used some day, somewhere.

Re: MG34 Retro-Fit Bi-pod and Mid mount adaptor
That 1/2 ring mount is a great base piece to create variants from. Something to attach easily to the MG3 AA tripod would be great to have or even a generic part that can be further adapted. I've seen some MG3 vehicle mounts that might be a ble to use one some how to mount the 34. How many aare you m...

Re: MG34 Finish
Thanks for your detailed reply. Well, since most people are dealing with parts kits, semis, and other already compromised parts arrangements, it sounds like just having something that runs well and looks decent is what matters. The whole numbers thing is more or less lost when they chopped the origi...

Forced Match parts and line throughs
How do you feel about parts that match numbers, but were lined through and renumbered to achieve that match. I've seen parts that have an initial number and then have been lined through in a professional way and restamped with a new number. The number size and order are then different. However, the ...

Re: MG34 bipods
Well, thanks for the feedback. It's interesting how much mis-information is floating around. I know I need to get 'the book' to avoid all of this fumbling discussion. Since nobody mentioned it, I guess all of these rank about the same for desirability. I guess I'll go with the assumption that a well...

MG34 Finish
I have seen various adds discussing MG34 finish conditions - what is more highly valued - a nice patina, but with obvious wear in spots in specific areas or a nice beautiful bluing, but probably from some later refurbishment. I would assume the patina has more inherent value since it is tough to cre...

MG34 bipods
I've seen a few different bipods and some other variations. Is there a significant difference in value or desirability or functionality between them? There also seems to be some variation in the amount and location on the markings. Ones that I think are out there are 1) an old style without reinforc...

Re: WTB mg34 tripod lug...
Are you just looking for the big tripod pin that is pressed into the machined lugs on the bottom of the receiver or the entire machined lugs that have the grip pin holes attached to the front? I believe the large pin is the same for MG34s and MG42s and you can get them off of gunbroker or maybe RTG ...

M53 history
There has been a lot of interest in and effort made to track down the general history of MG42s. I know their historical significance drive this, as the period was pivotal. These days there are a lot of M53s out there and although they are of minor importance, some have gone through a real shooting w...

Re: mg34 bolt head disassembly - help
tomcatshaas,
They were very good pictures. That will make a big difference in the effort. Looks truly like a pain, but at least I have a clue now.
Thank you very much. Most tutorials stop at the basic bolt tear down and leave you with a few big sub assemblies.
