Re: MG08 water jacket original green paint
It's a DWM 1918, I'm thinking about buying but I want one that is all original and the only thing I'm not sure about on this one is the paint on the jacket. Any help or opinions would be greatly appreciated as always.

Re: MG08 water jacket original green paint
Some jackets have the paint while others do not? Can you tell is there any pattern reason or timeframe on which ones do and don't. Also on the one in the pic does it look original to you?

MG08 water jacket original green paint
Did the Germans between the wars apply a green paint to the outside of the barrel jackets or was this sometimes done during WWI?

08/15 filler cap gasket replacement
On my 08/15 the gasket that goes between the filler cap and on the water jacket has all but worn out. Anyone making replacements or ideas on the best way to replace that piece?

Barrel Packing and oil/grease question
My 08 does leak a bit both at the muzzle and rear of the barrel, if someone could give me the idiots guide to packing it properly that would be much appreciated. Also to prevent any rust what type of oil or grease would you put on parts such as in the grooves where the backplate fits onto the receiv...

Re: 4th Position Stoppage
First of all thank you everyone for the help and of course I will have plenty more questions to come. I changed out locks, fired 1,500 rounds of the 70s Romanian, and only had 1 jam this past weekend. Bob is there any way I could ask your assistance in taking a look at the lock that was giving me tr...

Re: Muzzle booster removal question
Jmann thanks for the help. On the cleaning I do always clean on the same day as shooting, but in this case my challenges in disassembly have slowed me down a bit but thankfully it is all cleaned properly now.

Muzzle booster removal question
I'm getting close to figuring all of this out, well closer anyway. When I go to remove the muzzle booster from the barrel I can not get the booster off as it seems to tight around the barrel. That is what was preventing from taking those back plates off - the barrel booster was keeping the barrel fr...

My plan is to head back to the range this coming weekend with a good k98 to try the ammo plus a different lock in the 08 to see what happens.

Removing left and right closure plates
Removing the left and right closure plates is now the step I'm working on. I have the backplate off, feed tray out, and spring cover off so I am getting close. I have attached a few pics of challenge on getting the those plates off to remove the barrel extension and get the barrel out. Sorry with al...

4th Position Stoppage
Went to try out my 08 this weekend and had several 4th position stoppages. The ammo I used is the 1970s Romanian that I thought did so well in the Maxims. Please take a look at the pics of the some the rounds that failed to fire and see if you agree it was the ammo? From left to right the markings a...

Re: Removing backplate on 08
Thank guys I have the backplate off now! Sorry I can be a bit slow sometimes so thanks for helping out. My next challenge is I am not understanding how to remove the barrel extension plates, connecting rod, and crank handle from the rest of the gun. I have Dolf's book and it is excellent but I must ...
