Re: Buffer cam pieces, clean up or buy new?
The overall length of the buffer tabs isn't critical, it's "the distance from the rear of the receiver to the foreward edge of the tab" that is important. Nobody want a floppy buffer/stock back there. You weld them in "a little deep" (too far foreward), then machine off metal a little at a time from...

Re: Slabbed cocking handle
ccccccccccc.jpg levier-d-armement-1-modele-mg-42.jpg pix297787828.jpg The slab-sided charging handle didn't work well because it lacked mechanical-advantage leverage to overcome the grip of the rollers in the barrel extension. If you've ever "tested" a bolt by latching it into a barrel, you see how...

MG34 tank barrel shroud A/A adaptor
http://www.gunbroker.com/item/580914131 Nice set, not mine. Most of these utilize a "clamp-on" foreward A/A sight holder. It was removable in order to slide the gun into the turret mount from the inside. The "aircooled" MG34 shroud uses a front A/A sight holder that pins on, and is smaller and narro...

Re: Mg34 makers code
Is the "s/n 573" on the shroud? I guess it could be a replacement part. I do have one that was buffed so thoroughly that the maker's code was purposely...yet artfully...eliminated, yet the s/n remains clear. Why? Does it look really old (1934-5)? Sometimes makers don't sign their work when they are ...

Re: WTB: MG42 rear receiver section
My BRP receiver suffered from the same weakness. The radii are way too large on these sections, such that fitting all the components inside required taking too much out of the inside corners. I built up the outside with TIG welds, and it's minimally visible. You could utilize the RTG rear receiver s...

Re: Allegheny Arsenal
I have the same kit waiting to be built. I took it down the other day after moving three times and noticed a hole in the box. Some little stuff had wandered away. I thought about calling A-A, but I got the couple of missing items pretty cheaply from RTG Parts. Phil http://www.robertrtg.com/store/pc/...

Re: Introductions (or one way to increase your post count).
Welcome to the MG42 Fountain of Knowledge. It's all here! The Wiselite is a nice receiver. It's already factory built...and straight. The little extra length it has allows the bolt to travel further to soften the recoil. It does use some parts that are unique to it, different from the MG42-M53 kits....

Re: blank adapting the mg42/m53/mg1-3
Photo from RTG. This might be too much spring for the plastic blanks. mgg-1753_1074_detail.jpg As you look at the MG42 bolt, you notice that the round is nudged into the chamber by the nose of the extractor. The round then bottoms out in the chamber at which time the extractor must "pop" over the ri...
