What is the best arrangement for the pressure plate (or "guide finger")? I've heard in the past that there's a difference between 8mm style & 308 style, but don't know the details (if true). Could this be a contributor to the bad feed we're having with the brass 308 blanks?
thanks,

Re: blank adapting the mg42/m53/mg1-3
I'd like to breath some life back into this discussion. A friend has a 42 which runs live ammot like a dream (both 308 & 8mm), but is struggling these days with blanks. The damage to the cartridges is similar to those shown above (but he is using brass ammo). He has been thinking it's a barrel issue...

MG42 Barrel Dissassembly
What is the trick to remove the extension from the end of the barrel without destroying everything? I've experimented with an old de-milled barrel & can't get it to budge, using some heat and a big big pipe wrench. We've got some barrels I'd like to re-build as blank barrels & it would help to get t...

Re: Repro MG42 Sling
We were comparing slings from atf & acme the other week at Billie Creek & the atf ones appear to be slightly shorter. My buddy (who has the atf one) had skinned knuckles from his hand being too close to the gun when carrying it by the straps. My acme one did not have the issue. I will say his connec...

Re: Thanks Mikesal MG42 project now under way.
Looks like some upcoming Soldaten to me!
I still have that one front shroud that could be cut in half it would help, but I don't have a back half that i'd want to cut. The new stampings would be best for that.

Re: Troubleshooting an MG42
A friend of mine just bought one of these a few months ago & had same issue. Turned out one side of the receiver (the "low" area that the feed tray sets on) wasn't machined deep enough. They told him there was a batch of them that were made that way. He had to send it back for the fix. A test fire b...

Re: Aluminum Cast stocks
Take the wooden "patterns" you now have & glue them to a board to make a master plate. Then make a cope & drag box out of wood in order to make a one piece casting. Then you can make a "core" to get rid of the excess in the buffer area and make the part more hollow. Making castings is addictive once...

Re: Has everyone seen this?!
everytime you guys (generically speaking) panic over this crap, all that happens is the prices of ammo & guns goes up. The manufacturers & distributors laugh all the way to the bank (or their mattress I guess). My kids & grandkids will still have gun rights, but won't be able to afford them due to t...

I bought a post war 308 loader from them last year at knob creek & it took me several tries to put it back into the ammo can. You gotta hold your mouth just right.....

Re: Sarco "LAFETTE GROUND TRIPOD"
Finally got some time to piddle with mine last night. The front "leg" was really tight when I first got it & I had to use a hammer to tap it out to extend it. The lever "catch" mechanism for the leg was also frozen up. I found out you can't take the inner leg out of the outer leg tube, so I removed ...

Are the caps (with or without the brush) available anywhere? The tripod I got from sarco didn't have one.

WTB used 308 chamber reamer
Anyone have a used reamer, or know where a reasonable priced one can be found? I need one to modify (cut the pilot off) for a project I'm working on. I could make one, but thought i'd ask here first.

Re: Sarco "LAFETTE GROUND TRIPOD"
As I was packing the jeep for the ww2 reeenactment this weekend in Indianapolis, the UPS truck pulled up & dropped off my tripod tonight! I pulled it out of the box, set it up on the sidewalk to make sure it worked, then thru it in the jeep too. The good: Doesn't appear to have ever been re-painted ...

Thanks for the correct link to the tripod. I just ordered one. We'll see what it looks like when it arrives. What has been the average delivery times? I'm in southern IL.

Re: Sarco "LAFETTE GROUND TRIPOD"
Ok, dumb question. Are these still available at Sarco? I couldn't find mention of them on the website. Next question is are they "passable" for ww2 reenacting?

P38 parts
Where is a cheap place to find a spare "junker" barrel & some re-pop grips for one of these pistols? I picked up one that was made in the 60's that I want to use in reenacting. Actually, it's too nice to use, but the price was right. I don't think it's ever been shot after arrival in the states. I g...

What part of So. IL are you guys in? I'm near Fairfield, IL. I have 3 kits laying around here if you ever need to experiment with swapping parts (all of mine are 8mm).

Re: IMA M53 Receivers
I finally got around to picking the 2 I ordered up at the post office the other day. One was saw cut just ahead of the recouperator nut, the other just ahead of the D hole. One still has the buffer latch installed. Both had the recouperators in place when they were cut. Yes, the torch gaps are prett...
