Re: Weld Questions On My Receiver
After posting these picture I got to taking a look at the one titled “Welded Rear Receiver 2†and it appeared from the picture that the two sections were not parallel with each other, so I used a straightedge to check this and found that they were in fact off, as you can see in the picture I’v...

Re: Weld Questions On My Receiver
I finally got around to welding up the section of the receiver behind the trunnion as you can see by the attached pictures and I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out. All the surfaces are really flush with each other and I don’t see any warpage or misalignment of the two sections. Now that ...

Re: Weld Questions On My Receiver
GeeDeeEmm: Like you I’m a real novice when it comes to using a mill or metal lathe. I’ve always been interested in learning how to use them and just for fun several years ago I took an evening six week machine tool course at a local junior college. Having never used what I learned I’m not 100%...

Re: Weld Questions On My Receiver
I like that comparison of being able to hold the piece by hand and checking the alignment by rotating it like a chicken on a spit. Great analogy! I was able to get the rear section set up for welding last weekend and have attached a picture. You'll see I've got a .02" copper sleeve I made that's hel...

Re: Weld Questions On My Receiver
It appears from the alignment and rigidity I’ve gained on the three rear sections behind the trunnion after installing the 1-1/8†steel that I don’t really need to set them up on the jig in order to weld them together. All three pieces making up this rear tail section are aligned perfectly and...

Re: Weld Questions On My Receiver
I’ve spent the entire day (Sat) re-aligning my receiver sections with 1-1/4†X 1/8†steel flat stock and am finding that the width of this piece of steel is a little bit too much and it doesn’t lay really flat inside the receiver but rides up in the radiuses. The result is the sections arenâ...

Re: Weld Questions On My Receiver
I sincerely appreciate all your help guys…There’s now way I could do this without your help! I spent the entire weekend running around getting supplies like copper, 1-1/4†flat stock, etc., so I’m ready to tackle the re-alignment on my jig as you all have suggested. One other question I have...

Re: Weld Questions On My Receiver
I truly appreciate the input guys! I had all the parts bead blasted and probably went a little overboard. The place that did it even blasted the inside of the feed cover, which I’m hoping isn’t going to affect its ability to cycle. I want to blue the gun as it was originally and if I do I’m go...

Re: Weld Questions On My Receiver
Thanks for the response Pirate! I don’t know what I was thinking…Of course it’d be an illegal machine gun and I’m definitely not going down that path!! By the way, I’ve read your “Build Pictorial†multiple times and am using it as my guide to build my gun. I’m still unclear though on...

Weld Questions On My Receiver
MG42 Receiver Jig.jpg As you can see by the picture, I have my four-cut German receiver set up on a jig for TIG welding and I’ve got a couple questions before I take it any further. 1. Is there any reason one would extend the grip stick slot and weld in the bolt block stud prior welding up the re...

Re: WTS BRP MG42 parts kit $1295
I'm currious! The prices sounds great, but I'm confused as to why this can't be welded back together as a semi auto. Can you please enlighten me?

Re: FNG question - Which is the best way to go on an MG42 receiv
Thanks Bill: I guess the advantage of going the cheaper kit route is if you want to extend the cost of the build out over a period of time in order to pay for it in a manner that’s not going to take a heavy bite out of your monthly cash flow; then maybe the way to do it is the pay as you go method...

Re: FNG question - Which is the best way to go on an MG42 receiv
I just posted this reply in the post "Where are the kits?" and found this thread, which covers some of the same issues so I'm posting the reply in here as well. I may be dead wrong, but when I did the math on buying a $200 parts kit, along with buying all the necessary receiver components from someo...

Re: Where are the kits?
I may be dead wrong, but when I did the math on buying a $200 parts kit, along with buying all the necessary receiver components from someone like Wise Lite Arms and or Burnt Capital, it made more sense to spend the extra money and buy a 4-cut German MG42 parts kit. You’re going to end up spending...

What alloy is the receiver?
I’m having a friend weld up my 4-cut receiver, who does TIG welding and fabrication as a profession. He’s asked me what alloy the receiver is made from (i.e., Mild Steel 836 or Chrome Alloy 4130, etc) and I’d like to know if anybody here can tell me.

Re: albany oregon mg shoot
Are all you folks from Oregon. I live about half way between Alsea and Walport north off of Highway 34 on Fall Creek Road, which is about 1-1/2 hours from Albany. I have an MG 42 4-piece German receiver and an M53 parts kit I'm going to start to build in the very near future and would love to see so...

Ok…I’m looking at John Baum’s (German Manuals) exploded view drawing of the gun and see what you’re talking about on the front sight, so I’ll see if I can figure out how it goes together. This is going to be fun! Will I be able to actually say I’m assembling my gun? If only it were that ...

I noticed in another kit picture someone showed on another thread they had two small square pieces that mine doesn't have. Looking at RTG Internationals site I see parts called buffer tabs, which I think is what they were. If I need these, at $32 for the pair I probably won't go broke buying them th...

Here's another picture of the smaller parts. I've read about every sticky on here and I'm still a bit confused how you go from this kit to a buildable gun without buying the 3 piece cut receiver. I guess the new receiver I was thinking about in my earlier post is the Wise Lite one not BRP. Will thei...
