Re: MG-3 kits ---What do you think ?
Crushed AND cut? It would be way easier to use a M53 kit combined with a Global Machine receiver, then add the MG3 parts from RTG than to try to get that mess back into specs, plus the fact the real MG3 bolt head is gone...nope, I'll just keep building M53's. It's hard enough to get this platform to...

Re: Mg42 canvas sling
I bought green canvas sling from Numrich. Definitely post war in my case, but real 'surplus'. It has really cheap attaching hardware and no padding. It was cheap if I recall (like $10). It's looks like maybe Spanish?? Perhaps for their 5.56 belt fed the CETME Ameli that is similar to the MG42/3? But...

Re: Seeking a gunsmith for a Wiselite M53, Frustrated and Out of ideas.
Most gunsmiths do not want to touch these conversions, so why not fix it yourself? We can help you. (I do not have an FFL BTW)....but I'll throw some tips out there which may help. I've built several of these in SA (M53 and MG3 clones) and helped many more with their builds. Sounds like your grip st...

Re: Weld up reciever or use a 80%?
IMO its easier to buy a kit that has the front shroud section cut off as long possible in the rear like Centerfire has (usually with the front rail and recuperator holes), this way you can square it up in the rear past the camming piece area (saves from camming piece fitting), then use an 80% receiv...

Re: Bolt stuck
I've more than once gotten a bolt locked into a barrel extension and forgot to install the charging handle while building, though this isn't your circumstance, a method that works well for me is to place a towel on a hard surface (like your garage floor) and with the butt stock removed give the gun ...

Re: WTB MG34 feed tray
Another place you could try calling is BRP, though they don't have any listed on their site, sometimes they have parts not listed. They used to have them, so they may have one lying around.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Re: WTB MG34 feed tray
Maybe also try asking on the Weapons Guild site, which a builders website... many members there have tons of parts from kit building.
Only thing thing is, if you are not a member already I think there is a minimum number of posts before you can post in the WTS or WTB sections.

Re: .308 conversion
All you can do is try it first like John suggested. Depends on ammo and how loose or tight your gun is. That said, if if does not run in .308 you can try getting a .308 booster cone like the early MG1's used (which is hard to find now) or get a MG3 flash hider and barrel bearing (they are meant to w...

So far as I know RTG never made receivers, but they did sell BRP receivers...thats probably what you have if it came from RTG.

Re: MG3 Barrel
Well the price of original barrels, be it 8mm or 7.62 is never going to get any cheaper than they are now short of ending the barrel ban which is very unlikely. IMO $400 for a hammer forged chromed 7.62 NATO spec barrel is not all that bad considering you will never wear it out shooting in SA in a l...

Re: Time for Change.
There is so much info here, even besides the stickies. Before my first semi build I spent hundreds of hours here reading, going through old posts, hundreds of pages as sort of a nightly hobby. Such a wealth of info is here for those willing to take the time. I'd start on the first page from ten year...

Re: MG42/M53 canvas action cover mystery
Which is why most were never used and are now in great shape.... Anytime close to combat they were probably disguarded and seen as a waste of gear to those in combat, probably another 'army intelligence idea' if you know how most militaries work....speaking from the point of US gun covers, cases and...

When the gun is being transported or stored action covers help prevent snow rain and dust from entering the action...same as muzzle caps.

Re: Introductions (or one way to increase your post count).
Hello All, They call me "TANKER" or "M48TANKER". I chose that name years ago and have used it on many different forums. I was a "Gunner" on an M48A3 tank in Vietnam during 1969/70. After I graduated from college with a degree in Business Administration....I lost my student deferment of course. As i...

Re: MG blew up in my face! Need help
8mm shells look near ready to blow. Did you check headspace? I checked it face of the bolt to the barrel has 0.5mm clearance with rollers fully locked, the same as my old yugo. If headspace was bad then it would show on first 10 rounds? Do you have automotive feeler gauges? Can you take your best b...

Re: MG blew up in my face! Need help
That sounds about right...recups of all types including the MG3, the head does not fully compress flush with the tube. The question on them always is if the spring rate is still in spec. According to the manual it should be flush and barrel should be stopped by the cam and not the recuperator. http...
