Re: Mg 34 lafette.
As a lot of MG34 lafettes ended up in Norway it could possibly be that country's green, although the photo makes it look much greyer than Norwegian Army green?

Re: Top cover
I think that blank ammo is PRVI PARTIZAN, made in Serbia. We use it a lot in the UK, as we can't shoot live, and it gets imported in enough quantity to satisfy the reenactment and movie markets. Oh, and screwing restrictors with differing hole diameters (2.0 to 5mm is a common range) into the end of...

Postwar ones seem to always have two holes at the side, yours has one so that would indicate it is more than likely the real deal...

Wow! Don't often see the Elektron ones! As you say in remarkably good condition - possibly repainted but with correct colours? Not sure if the Germans would bother with red (oxide) primer on alloy components?? Aluminium items for example (e.g. Trinkwasser containers) have paint on bare metal. Wartim...

Re: MG34 bipod bracket
Harry, the tankgun version of the MG34 (panzermantel) doesn't have the "collar" for the bipod to connect to, so it is supplied as a separate locking collar for when the MG is dismounted and used on the ground. The barrel shroud is smooth and armoured... hope that is clear. Google "Panzermantel" for ...

Very nice! Most commonly found on armoured vehicles that had a 34 or 42 for close defence.
What did you strip the black paint off with, to leave the original paint untouched?

You have an amazing collection of kasten with contents! I'm seeing stuff that is new to me, and that's after years of mooning over this stuff... (lafette cradle box for example!)

How bizarre is it that there are boxes for the Laf42 cradle but we can never find any evidence of actual German transit boxes for either the MG34 or 42 themselves!?

Re: Sherwin-Williams PANZERGRAU Formula ??
Just a small correction - Dunkelgelb (dark yellow) is RAL 7028, which is not in the current RAL colour range, unfortunately. RAL 8020 is one of the camo colours specified for Afrika - bound vehicles, the others being RAL 7027 and RAL 8000.

Re: MG3 tripod with MG34?
The light washed out pea-like green is the Yugo original colour that is commonly referred to as "puke green"... German lafettes were factory painted in either dark grey (RAL 7021) early war, or dunkelgelb (RAL 7028) late war. Other colours, and even camo finishes are possible from field repaints. Th...

Re: MG3 tripod with MG34?
Not come across many folks wanting to repaint a Yugo lafette from Dunkelgelb to the famous puke green!! Most people leave it as a WW2 looky-likey even if it is postwar.... each to their own I guess
