Looks like its a Yugo M53 judging by the receiver markings so the price is a bit steep. The date 1943 might be refering to the date contained within the Yugo crest stamp on the top cover. I paid £300 for a deactivated (sorry but its the only way we can own them) M53 and post war AA tripod. Regards ...

Here is a picture of the locking wedge from my MG34 Lafette, it only measures about 1 1/4" long and its flat so shouldn't be difficult to manufacture if need be, but easy enough to lose.

Hope the picture helps, now to put my tripod back together.

When the locking handle is moved to the locked position it should force a small metal "wedge" up against the traverse slide/scale thereby locking it in place. Sounds like you might be missing that piece. I almost lost mine when it was dismantled but luckily I heard it drop and looked for it straight...

As I understand it, the early slings for the MG34 are slightly narrower than the universal MG34/MG42 slings. When the MG42 came along they made the sling fitting slightly wider to accept the grip on both guns. If your having trouble fitting your sling to a MG42 then its almost certain to be a early ...

If your after a MG34 Lafette try this link which I found on here, apparently they are from the same source as the Rytonarms ones.

Carlo

I have Folke Myrvang's book in front of me and on page 135 it shows pictures of 2 BNZ marked MG42's, one dated 1943 is the same thin/light stamping like yours the other is 1942 dated with a heavier/thicker stamping, but both are "M.G. 42"

Hope this helps.

Jorge I hope you will post some pictures of your Lafette when its completed! I couldn't agree more about Tony Budge, he certainly goes the extra mile to please his customers. I was after a MG34 made by Steyr (BNZ) because that's the manufacturer of my other German weapons, and he came up trumps even...

Hi Orin and thanks for the welcome. I agree with you that Tony does a good job in obtaining Russian war booty for us collectors. Only trouble is it seems to take ages when dealing with the Russians. I had been waiting over 6 months for my MG34 but it was worth the wait and besides I couldn't find on...

Abwehr I'd be interested in seeing your handywork when completed. Looking at mine the pads appear thinner than originals, measuring only about 1" where as originals look more like 1 1/2" or 2" thick, so maybe a bit more wadding would be called for when I get around to it. I must admit I haven't look...

Wow, what a cracking butt!
I thought my early metal tipped bakelite one was nice but that is beautiful.

I have a MG34 Lafette that came from Russian Arsenals which had brown/green canvas pads on (so not just a Yugo thing!) they were dirty and when the tripod was repainted at some time they spilt paint over the pads. I took them off and unfortunately the leather covers weren't hiding underneath so I ju...

Newbies MG34 and Lafette

Hi all, I'm new to the forum but not to collecting, just thought I'd show my recently acquired MG34 and Lafette. Both were bought from Tony Budge at Rytonarms (U.K.) and were recently obtained from Russia. The MG34 is a BNZ (Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG) made in 1941 (weren't they all?) and the Lafette is ...
