Replacing locking rollers

Not that I need to, but how would one go about removing the bolt locking rollers for replacement? I see that RTG has replacement rollers, so how do you install them?

Pop the old rollers out by inserting a tapered punch behind the roller and hitting the punch with a hammer. (Eye protection is a good idea.)

Squeeze the new ones into place in a vise. (Soft aluminum jaws are recommended.)

According to the MG42 armorer's manual they are both to be replaced at the same time, not just one as needed.

You have to compress the clip into the clip groove first and then while holding the clip compressed slide the roller over the clips and onto the shaft,you will more than likely destroy the clip if you just try and squeeze it on in a vice.
M14 bolt roller installation is the same.

You're thinking MG34, this thread is in the MG42 section. I hate it when that happens (done it myself)

First thing that I did was to look at the top asking myself mg42 or mg34 saw mg42 and then read your post and went that sounds right.

Will replacing the rollers on an MG42 change the headspace?

I was able to tighten up the head space on my PTR91/G3 by swapping out the rollers. would this work for the MG42?

But, they make rollers in different sizes for the G3.

Different bolt/roller design. The rollers themselves don't set the headspace on a 42, it is the roller pins. With a 42 bolt, the roller pins can't be a different diameter, because they wouldn't fit right in the bolt head if they were.
