MG08 barrel fit an MG08/15?

Just about anything goes but no MG42 or MG34 talk.

MG08 barrel fit an MG08/15?

Post by ebeeby »

Are the MG08 and MG08/15 barrels interchangeable?

The barrels are the same other than the sleeve on the end of the 08/15. The 08/15 uses a somewhat smaller diameter booster piston which screws on the end of the barrel unlike the MG08 which has a piston that slips over the end of the barrel when the booster is installed. The piston in the MG08 is contained inside the booster so it doesn't need threads on the barrel to work.

Thanks Frank. So if the end of the barrel is threaded it is likely an MG08/15 barrel rather than an MG08 barrel?

Actually if its threaded it means its a german maxim barrel. I've seen a couple german proofed barrels with no threads but not for a long time. Almost all the barrels out there are threaded so they could be used for either gun. On the other hand most of the chinese and Swiss barrels I've seen are not threaded. When you find threads on them it means they are for use with blank adapters.....
