PTSD and Veterans Rights.New study

Post by Bil »

Rand study of the head wound/TBI/PTSD situation is out.300,000 veterans report either major depression or PTS.320,000 report some sort of brain injury.43% have had no evaluation of this.19% of returning vets have possible TBI.Our VA system is not prepared for this massive unflux of troops needing specialised care. The suicide rate for returning vets is skyrocketing. After all of the problems post Vietnam, you would think they would have thought this through. Many of the vets are not seeking treatment because of possible repercussions on their careers, either military or civilian. The one big thing Congress has done in response to this is to deprive those that avail themselves of treatment is to permanently deprive them of gun ownership rights.Returning wounded veterans treated the same as convicted felons. This country is really f'ed up.I won't even start [right now] on the issue of the jobs for the returning troops-if and when they get back, dumped into a faltering economy, with just a pat on the back.Don't forget, hire a Vet!! ---bil

Now Bil you know that’s just red meat for a rabid Rightwing Populist like myself (and Theodore Roosevelt, and Senator Robert Lafollet, and Lou Dobbs, etc).

You are right, it is exceedingly appalling. Where are the public policy geniuses that saw what the Vietnam vets went through? It is almost as bad as the Pentagon denying that the Gulf War Syndrome exists, WTF.

A country cannot hemorrhage 3 million manufacturing jobs (each manufacturing job supports 4 others) and decimate the manufacturing infrastructure, outsource tech jobs to India, keep on open border to encourage illegal immigration to benefit greedy pig-fornicators that do not want to pay Americans a living wage, AND have good paying jobs for guys and girls that have been putting their hid on the line in the Middle East. But it should.

And to top it all off our dollar is dropping faster than Senator Craig in Minneapolis airport bathroom, so the price of every commodity raises….ah but I prattle on, I guess I am bitter, bitter that the last two miscreants in the Whitehouse sold this country out and that once again our vets are paying for it.

Ok Im gonna keep this short (or try to) as this is something I REALLY can relate to ATM.
Got my official VA claim back yesterday. My PTSD (that is what the military RETIRED me for 50% disability, also S.S. has rated me disabled as well) in the VA's eyes is.... wait for it..........IM BIPOLAR!!!!!!
Please insert ever curse word you know here.
They did service connect 1 ear for hearing loss at 10%, BUT THE HEARING LOSS IN THE OTHER EAR IS NOT SERVICE CONNECTED?????????????
Please insert more curse words here
I was told flat out by one of the leading docs here at the VA (family friend) that they purposely rate low and make things a pain (got 2 year fight to look forward to...yay!!) just so some people go "Fu^& it!"
Ok getting mad think happy thoughts..... puppies.........machine guns..........killing skinnies...........ooohhhhmmmmmmm.
Ah thats better

Is it me or is it just plain insanity that the American Civil Liberties Union will defend the most wretched of dung-heaps (eg. murderers, rapists, illegals, thieves, etc) but they, to my knowledge, have not taken up the cause of veteran’s rights?

Or why can’t some of these neo-con mega-churches get involved? And as for the media god forbid they shed light on this neglect, I guess it is more important that the population at large knows the latest caper of Paris Hilton, Britaney Spears, or who is dancing with the stars…..

I know it is easy for me to say, but hang in there Glenn.
