Re: MG42 sling? whats this?
If you want a good original sling then expect to pay $150 and up. I bought one on ebay from npm83 for $110, unfortunately the sling I got was not the sling in the picture. About 8 inches of one strap was very dry, almost to the point of being able to snap it.
Try contacting Bergflak (via a pm) or Ryan Schnee (via his web site) as they may be able to help. I am very pleased with the slings I got from Bergflak.

The only thing that helps me maintain my slender grip on reality is the friendship I share with my collection of singing potatoes.

Re: MG42 sling? whats this?
If you notice the "sling" pictured on the IMA "link" above......that is a "Post-War" Yugo sling....I can't see the clip on other end to tell you if it is for the MG34 or MG42...but definately "Post-War" due to the "Hook-Style" on the other end.
The slings that MARSTAR's web-page is now showing appear to all have the "Post-War" end-hooks and not the WWII German style hooks as my photo below shows.
(NOTE: The three at the top of each photo are the "Weapon-Sling" end-hooks that attach to the underside of the barrel-jacket.).
If I remember correctly....the "Ammo-Can" slings had a "Hook" of a slightly different design than these....and it was on both ends.

Re: MG42 sling? whats this?
No, canvas was probably never used. The canvas slings are believed to be postwar slings wrongfully labeled DAK ("Afrika Korp) slings. Stick with the properly replicated leather slings for repros or seek an original leather sling if you can afford one.
