tom r cj2a 1946 restoration

Post by TOM R »

well i just sold my nice cj7 a few months back and got rid of some stuff and fell into this project, when done it will look like a ww2 jeep at a fraction of the cost, not for show just for fun, i also have been given a m38 that has not shown up yet

this is the rollin chasis after a coat of o.d., all parts are sandblasted and painted prior to my gettin them so should be a simple build :D

This is what I picked up over the weekend. It ant no CJ. It is a 1944 MB. I took it to work to day. I got it from a guy in upstate new york who used it like a ATV for fun and hunting. It was $4000 and runs great, but the body has pices welded on to all over the place.

that is a rough ww2 jeep for 4k but that is the goin rate and the reason why I built the cj version, mine is for fun and so I can make it how I want without worrying about correctness, I got under 4k into mine and it is all new with almost 2 complete parts jeeps left over, good news is yours looks complete and that is important cause it makes for a very easy restoration,

dennis I am sure I got guys goin to show in that event i will have to try and get there, just remind me :D definitly want to meet up with more guys from the board

oh btw last week I lost brakes( entire systm is brand new exept the stop lite switch) so rebled em then the stop lite would not work so i said screw it for the nite and it was a good thing my bud and i were b.sing cause started hearing pop pop sizzle then smoke from under the hood, i open the hood and poof the master cylinder goes up in flames, threw my buddie a wrench to unhook the batt and I grabbed the extinguisher I had just mounted in the jeep and it went right out, a few more minutes and it the garage the harley and dads restored trans am all would have gone up in flames  aparently the stop lite switch shorted internaly and set the brake fluid on fire, all this cause I did not replace a $5 switch well now I am adding fuses and a batt disconnect

actualy i just finished puttin new shoes springs adjusters and anchor bolts on the rear both sides, the problem with the brakes was the ones i removed were bonded not rivited and both pads came off the drivers rear shoes and were beating around in the drum catching once and a while, got new rear drums also but they do not seem to fit the hub so I am waiting for a call back from the vendor

here are some pics
