Bought Vickers kit, Help & need info

Postby 42rocker » Thu Nov 16, 2017 12:26 am

Well was looking at a few parts the other day on the brp guns website and saw a Vickers Parts kit listed under the new stuff. Well I bought it. Now to pay the credit card bill. Anyone need any MG34 or MG42 parts?? See some of my stuff in the For Sale Section on tis site or pm me.

Ok, my plans are to build a semi auto Vickers in 7.62 x 54r. Looking all around for plans, semi auto info , and info on how to redo the .303 into the 54r. Been looking on a lot of sites but thought I would ask for help 1st on this site.
So HELP!!!!

Working on getting the parts together for the Vickers build.
One of the parts I'm going to need is either the "thread" or replace the "thread" with "O"rings. Think material around the barrel that keeps the water from leaking. Gland packing material if you will.
Any thoughts????

I remember that such seals used to be made of cotton rope or cord, which was covered with graphite. It was flexible enough to seal very well, as the water jacket doesn't have any pressure in it. A thin cotton clothes line could be boiled in water first, then greased or graphited. It will take some trial and error to get the right amount, but it's cheap and it works. Hi temp orange rubber O rings would also work, if you can find the right size.
Frank Hatten would be a good person to ask about what's being used that's a little more modern.
