on this pic (thanks to photoshop) we can see a first patent barrel in a standart barrel bearing
and on this one you can imagine kow was a early pattent barrel bearing....

Dumb question, but that is a top to bottom view? The machined away area is to allow the barrel to pivet outwards to the right, to remove the barrel?
