New Mainspring: Update

Post by MGW LLC »

I tested the prototype mainspring from the manufacture earlier this week.

It works! 8mm strips and loads well now.

I had this first spring a little tweak to fit all the MGs I have sitting around so I sent it back to the manufacture to run up another with the "mods".

If the new spring drops in to everything I believe we are a GO for mass production.

Good times.

So you didn't take our money and spend it on beer and women?....I guess I am somewhat disappointed. But oh well, at least we will get our springs. Thanks for the update!

Been busy working on projects, nothing new to report as of now.

The manufacture is sending me 4 different variants of the design. When those come in I will be a testing fool!

So this means that after you test the 4 variants you will select one and place it on order?

Still waiting, they are squeezing in my requests with their other business. As I have been told, it is a lot of work setting up the machines for a single spring at a time.

The last spring worked to extract bullets from the belt but was the crushed length was too long to eject the casings. The concern is weak tension with the shortened spring with only one wire. I will be testing two variations of 1 wire and 2 variations of a two wire spring. Original MG42 springs are 3 wire but our metals are much better today.

Everything has been paid for so if I get THE spring we are all looking for, I can give them the go ahead to make the batch!

I am going to be spending the better part of the next couple weeks getting my existing customers taken care of while job hunting during the day. If anyone has any questions, PM me.

Anything new on this since last month? Sent funds for 2 way back. Not pushing, just wondering. Waiting patiently with a worm on my tongue (baited breath)!

I have Conrad working on quite a few things for me as well and I have just had to be patient. I am sure he is slaving away on this stuff as it seems to be quite a love of his. I too am hoping for an update as well.
Keep up the good work MGW!

Look forward to getting those pics!

Sorry everyone, I have had a LOT on my plate as of late.

Lots of personal drama and I have been trying to keep up with my projects in the space between.

I'll have 12 springs to send out for general testing around mid Jan.
If you shoot your S/A 42 a lot, I would like your help in running these through the paces.
I will be using the feedback I get back for the final run. I want to get this right the first time but that is not always guaranteed, thus the trial.

If anyone would like to have their money refunded please PM me your name, address and how many springs you have paid for. This is a work in progress and if anyone is unhappy, I will do my best to make it right.
