SA M53 cycling issues

Good evening all,
It's been a while since I've posted. I just wanted to take a second and thank all the members/admins that have posted so much helpful information. By reading many many posts here, I was able to complete my SA M-53 kit earlier this year. Over 2 tiring weeks, I was able to bring the demill kit to shooting condition by working late nights after work. Initial test firing went perfectly. Very happy with the bang portion...not so happy with the cycling.
It sometimes cycles 5 rounds with no issues, but the next round fails to feed. I think the belt either doesn't advance or doesn't advance far enough to pick up the next round, so I end up manually cycling a few times until it advances. If I tug on the empty tail side of the belt as I cycle the charging handle, it usually cycles just fine. This leads me to believe the problem lies in the top cover. I've tried 2 types of ammo (8mm), different belts, polishing wear surfaces on feed tray, and adjusting feed tray height. It doesn't seem to make a difference if it is recoil cycling or hand cycling...still fails to pull the next round through occasionally. Are there any known issues in the feed pawls and/or other components in the top cover? Do they wear out often? If so, any replacement parts available? Can the camming track in the top cover possibly come into play somehow? I'd like to just replace the top cover, but cannot seem to track one down.
Any help would be much appreciated, as I have exhausted my limited knowledge on the subject. I haven't had much time the past few months, but I would like to get the project fully functioning so I can Parkerize it.
Also, attached is a picture of my project.
Thanks in advance!
