Semiauto open bolt MG?

Post by AlphaKilo »

Hello from Czechia.
Guys, I would like to know - have there been any successful semiauto conversions, shooting from an open bolt? Here in Europe (well, not all of it..) open bolt is ok, so I assume - perhaps - there might be an option keeping an MG as it is (bolt carrier, receiver), and just alternating trigger group?

It is not legal in the US to have an open bolt semi-auto gun (except for some that were made years ago), but if your laws allow it, the MG42 would be a pretty simple trigger group to convert to single shot from an open bolt. The problem I see is that it would be too easy to convert to full auto, unless the receiver was also modified in some way to only accept the semi auto trigger assembly.

Thanks a lot John for your reply. Well, many firearms can be converted (or even manufactured from scratch) to fullauto easily, it is just illegal. But, at first look - MG trigger group contains no disconnector, so semi trigger would have to be something like MG74's one, which is pretty complicated. Or any better ideas? Check PM pls
