Worth of a C&R MG42

Post by easymoney »

I saw an MG42 have been sold on Rubin's web site the other day; I emailed him and asked what it had sold for; he said $40K.

I was somewhat shocked as I had no idea such an item would be worth so much. Is it just me or is there that much demand out there?

Depending on condition, yup, they sell for that much. I know someone who turned down $45,000 6 years ago. The gun was a real cherry in excellent condition, and even had one matching numbered barrel.

In the US you are paying for the "paper" not the object.

Having the "paper", a Form 4 which makes it legal to own, is in effect, part of the machinegun, as it is the most common way to own one. Buy one, get both - they are inseparable for most machineguns.

Talking about them as being two different things is pointless. It's like arguing that the water is free, you're just paying for the bottle. You don't get one without the other (manufacturer's licenses excluded).
