I have it close to being range ready. I have to install the recuperator which isn't looking to be easy. Does anyone have a photo or a diagram of exactly how a SA recuperator sits under the bolt rail?
Thanks in advance!

I think I have the recupe positioned about right but I'm having a difficult time pushing it into position under the bolt rail. I'll keep working on it.

they are tricky to put in use an awl in the front receiver bold hole to help guide it in then push forward from the back of the recupe and rotate it down and in.

Regarding loading.... when you go to load your semi MG42.. you must hold the bolt back while inserting the belt.. if you don't you risk damage to the feed ramp in the top cover..

Here is the bolt hold open that I made using photos posted by a member here.

Also photos of the round on the feed tray.. if the ammo belt is in when you pull the bolt back the bolt head pushes up on the round.

Re the bolt hold open make sure the bold head is behind the feed tray when the bolt is locked back.

Good Luck
Don

Thanks Don. That will come in very useful. I sure don't want to make a mess of it!

I finally got the recuperator in place. Very tight fit I'll say.

I'm now wanting a transit crate for my gun but I don't want to have to pay $300 or so for one. I wonder if anyone here might have one they'd sell for a really good price.

Well this is one that has been talked about a bit.
Do you really want a large wooden box?? Something that might just sit around and get in the way? Myself I take my MG42 out of whatever that I carry it in and put it into the safe. Then what do I do with the box or weapons bag?? For myself I like using a bag that can be folded stacked or whatever over a large carry box. Of course if you are going to use a box to keep it in all of the time then go for it. Add wheels or wheels that you can take on and off. I believe that if you search this site there are several threads that talk about transport boxes. Use that search button and grab your wood tools and go for it.

Good Luck and Enjoy either way.

Thanks! As I don't have a gun safe I figure the best way to keep it stored is a transit case (at least for the time being). It'll look good sitting there with my other German items such as helmets, ammo box, e-tool, gas mask container, etc. I'll toss in some silica gel to keep everything in the case dry. Hopefully I can acquire one at a less painful cost.

John
Short of that gun safe a storage box might be best. I'm a Gun Safe fan myself.
Use that search button on this site and see what you come up with. Go to the brp site and check out what Brian is selling. Or review everything and get out those wood tools and make your own. When I was thinking about making one I was thinking about a way to take wheels on and off.
Enjoy

Thanks for the input. I'll wind up with a box sooner or later (sooner I hope).

Johnb593,
On MG42/MG34 Transportation-Cases.......are you looking for something like would have been used during WWII (?)......if so, you might want to stay away from plywood-made cases (?)........I believe that there is at least one manufacturer that is using "plywood" to make his cases.

If you just need something to store the gun in........I guess "plywood" would be alright (?).

Here's a pic. I don't think it's plywood but I'd like your opinion on it though. Hopefully it will be just what I want. :D
